Assistant/Associate/Full Professor

Position Function:

This is a 9-month, tenure-track position that will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in human development and family studies and conduct research. The successful applicant for this position will initially have a 75% academic appointment and 25% research (Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station-MAFES) appointment with emphasis in Human Development and Family Science.

Salary Grade:

UC. Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Department Profile:

The School of Human Sciences provides education, research, and outreach programs related to human interaction and relationships, early childhood, child life, youth, adult and family studies, and teacher education in Family and Consumer Sciences and Agricultural Education. In addition, selected School programs focus on commerce, marketing, and using technology for problem solving and designing programs and projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in human development and family science.
  • Advising undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Establishing an active and focused research/scholarship program, including securing extramural funding for research efforts and publishing in respected journals and other outlets.
  • Engaging in service activities in support of the department, school, college, university, and community.

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor: Doctorate in human development and family science, early childhood education, or a closely related field. (ABD candidates near completion will be considered for the Assistant Professor rank.)

Associate Professor: Meet above qualifications for Assistant Professor plus awarded or pending tenure at a comparable university or have at least four years of experience and an outstanding record of scholarly productivity.

Full Professor: Meet qualifications above plus hold the rank of professor with tenure at a comparable university or have at least four years of experience at the associate professor level with tenure and an outstanding record of scholarly productivity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to quality teaching in higher education.
  • Scholarly interest(s) with potential to succeed within the land grant mission.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, administrators, and industry professionals.
  • Professional experience in an area related to human development and family science.
  • Experience teaching college students, including use of distance education technology.
  • Effective communication skills using written, verbal, and interpersonal techniques.
  • Experience in conducting and publishing research and/or scholarly work.
  • Success in competitive extramural funding.
  • Strong methodological and statistical background.
  • One or more of the following: Certification in Family Life Education (CFLE); Experience with early care and education teacher licensure and state agencies; Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS); Early Intervention background; Child Advocacy Studies Instructor; early intervention experience; FORECAST Facilitator; Trust-Based Relational Intervention Practitioner.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The individual should be self-motivated, fit well in a multidisciplinary team environment, and exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to publish scholarly publications and peer-reviewed journal articles. Ability to develop and maintain collaborative and robust partnerships.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

Ability to travel locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
