Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta invites applications for a faculty position in Engineering Education, Communication and AI-Enabled Learning at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor.
This position represents a strategic investment in advancing the future of engineering education at the University of Alberta. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping how engineers learn, communicate, and practice in an era of artificial intelligence, digital collaboration, and rapidly evolving societal challenges.
Responsibilities
Teaching (40%): Participation in teaching programs, including classroom teaching, supervision of students conducting research, and personal interactions with and advising students. The candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in engineering communication and/or pedagogy and/or critical thinking. They are also expected to lead the integration of advanced communication and pedagogy strategies across design, capstone, and graduate engineering curricula.
Research (40%): Participation in research, including the preparation or performance of creative works and reflective inquiry, and disseminating research results by means appropriate to the discipline. The successful candidate is expected to lead an internationally visible research program in engineering education and/or communication including areas such as rhetoric, AI-augmented learning, curriculum design, assessment, and/or related areas. They are also expected to develop an externally-funded research program appropriate to the candidate's disciplinary background.
Service (20%): An Academic Faculty member shall be actively engaged in service to the University and participate in the collegial responsibilities of departmental, Faculty, and University governance.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD in engineering, engineering education, rhetoric and technical communication, education, English, communication studies, science and technology studies (STS), or a closely related field. Experience with pedagogical innovation, educational technology, or AI applications in learning is required. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensure through APEGA is an asset for candidates from engineering backgrounds.
