Job Summary:
The Department of Economics at Furman University invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin August 1, 2026. The department recently developed a major in Finance-Economics to complement our longstanding majors in Economics and Mathematics-Economics. The new major is quantitatively rigorous, grounded in economic theory, and includes three core Finance-Economics courses: Corporate Finance, Investments, and a capstone Finance-Economics Seminar.
The Department of Economics encourages applications from candidates who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, student advising, and research in a liberal arts environment. In addition to teaching courses in their areas of expertise, all department members contribute to teaching across the curriculum. A successful candidate for this position will teach courses in economics, especially principles of economics, and at least one of the core Finance-Economics courses. The teaching responsibility is five courses per academic year. We are interested in hiring faculty members with diverse perspectives who will foster innovation in our curriculum and provide a rich and varied educational experience for our students. A PhD in economics or a closely related field, such as finance, by August 1, 2026 is required.
