Assistant/Associate Professional PracticeProfessor
Position Overview
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE; https://ece.osu.edu) at The Ohio State University invites applications for a professional practice faculty position, a non-tenured position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The primary duties will be to supervise, maintain, and update sophomore and junior level labs in circuits, microcontrollers, signals, and digital logic, as well as teach courses as necessary at all undergraduate levels. A small amount of research (10% time) is also expected. This position is expected to begin as early as Autumn 2026.
Performance Objectives
- Lead the maintenance, enhancement, and development of undergraduate laboratory courses to ensure they meet evolving educational and industry needs.
- Teach undergraduate courses in alignment with departmental priorities and the instructors areas of expertise, fostering clear communication and effective student learning.
- Secure and manage resources for the laboratories, including recruiting and supervising lab monitors and seeking equipment grants or donations to support program growth.
- Engage in scholarly activities such as applied research in electrical and computer engineering or STEM education to advance teaching and laboratory practices.
- Contribute to the departments governance and culture by promoting professionalism, ethical conduct, and a welcoming learning environment for students and colleagues.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required:
- A Ph.D. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field.
- Evidence of demonstrated efforts in teaching and/or outreach and engagement that reflect Ohio States Shared Values.
- Evidence of the ability to teach and supervise undergraduate students in a welcoming and supportive manner.
- Advanced mentoring and teaching skills.
- Evidence of the ability to clearly convey technical concepts.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with desire and ability to work constructively, decisively, and collegially with external and internal colleagues.
- Experience with maintaining a laboratory environment.
Desired:
- Experience with technical education.
- Experience with engagement with industrial or government partners for external funding.
- Record of an externally funded and productive research program.
- Experience with embedded systems.
- A demonstrated track record of leadership and collaboration in an academic environment.
- Embrace development of open-minded exploration among learners.
- A familiarity working with campus administrators and leaders.
- Potential to be a conscientious university community member.
Additional Information
The final offer for this position will be determined based on the candidates qualifications and experience.
