Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Natural Sciences, through innovative, hands-on and technology-rich learning experiences, prepares students for competitive STEM career opportunities as well as graduate and professional programs. The department fosters a transformative learning experience by promoting active learning, scientific reasoning and critical thinking while maintaining a rigorous academic environment that meets the students where they are, while helping them reach their full potential. Through undergraduate research, traditional graduate and an Accelerated BS-MS programmatic linkage, the department prepares students for and expands access to graduate level education.
Description of Work
This role plays a pivotal part in advancing our commitment to sustainability education and fostering a culture of academic excellence. This role places a primary emphasis on teaching at the undergraduate level. The presence of the position on the faculty will provide increased intellectual depth and further enhance the quality of teaching and research already underway at ECSU by enhancing active and experiential learning. OR The Department of Natural Sciences at ECSU is actively seeking a dedicated candidate for the position of Professor of Sustainability, focusing on Sustainable Agriculture, Sustainable Energy (hydro, wind, solar), and/or Environmental Science. Responsibilities include shaping the sustainability curriculum with a specific focus on agricultural practices, renewable energy technologies, and environmental science topics such as coastal erosion, conservation, and GIS studies. We are particularly interested in candidates with a demonstrated commitment to community engagement, diversity, and inclusive teaching. Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
- Teaching Excellence: We seek an enthusiastic individual with a PhD or master’s degree in Sustainability or a related field from a recognized institution. The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching and a commitment to providing high-quality education to a diverse student population. Your role will primarily involve undergraduate instruction in sustainability, including courses such as environmental studies, sustainable practices, and ecological systems.

Demonstrated experience teaching online courses utilizing Blackboard as the LMS platform is preferred. Minimum Training and Experience
A PhD or master’s degree in Sustainability or a related field (or minimum 18 credit hours plus relevant certifications), and the successful candidate will be enthusiastic about undergraduate teaching, utilizing innovative and experiential learning approaches.
