The Department of Teaching and Leading in the College of Education and Human Development at Augusta University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching Special Education and other teacher education courses at the graduate and undergraduate level for the Department of Teaching and Leading with a 4/4 teaching load, conducting and supervising fieldwork, communicating with all stakeholders effectively and providing service at the department, college, and university level. The start date for this position is August 2026, but an earlier start date of January 2026 may be considered.
This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.

Responsibilities

Teaching - 80%

Developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (teaching a 4-4 load each academic year). Candidates should be able to teach on multiple platforms (face-to-face, asynchronous, and synchronous).

Research - 10%

The candidate is in the process of establishing or continuing a robust research agenda. The candidate aspires to develop a national or international presence in their field. The candidate is familiar with quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research techniques.

Service - 10%

Providing service as appropriate to the department, college, university, the community, and the profession.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have earned their doctorate from an accredited university with a focus in SPED and have demonstrated the capacity to teach and supervise field experience.
Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with at least three years in the K-12 setting or comparable training, background, or experience.
Associate Professor - Mid-level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, or experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching both online and face-to-face courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
