We are looking for an individual with a demonstrated commitment to innovative undergraduate teaching and mentoring. The successful candidate will contribute to curriculum design and assessment, teach undergraduate courses, advise and mentor students, develop a research program that emphasizes undergraduate mentorship, and foster an inclusive and equitable classroom and work environment. This position will remain open until filled.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Other teaching responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s area of expertise and departmental needs, but could include upper-level electives in the discipline of the candidate.
  • Teaching load consists of a 4/4 schedule, or 12 contact hours a semester. For example, a faculty member might teach 2 lecture sections and 2 lab sections during a semester.
  • An active scholarly program that includes undergraduate researchers. This should involve regular participation in scientific conferences and occasional peer-reviewed publications within the discipline.
  • Involvement in University committees as assigned by the Faculty Governance Structure, as well as service to the profession and the Biology department.
  • Use of best practices in curriculum development and assessment, including the implementation of student-centered and evidence-based teaching practices such as active learning or Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs).
  • Mentoring and advising a diverse population of students.
  • Regular, predictable attendance on campus.
  • Alignment with the University's mission, vision, and strategic roadmap.
  • Other job duties/responsibilities may be assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • A commitment to serving diverse, first-generation, non-traditional, and socio-economically challenged students.
  • A willingness to work individually and in groups to support success in matriculation and persistence in the program.

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, or a closely related field. Additional expertise in Biochemistry is required.
  • Teaching experience, especially university-level research methods, is preferred.
  • Experience developing and/or executing a CUREs course is preferred.

How to apply:

Please submit a letter of interest, CV, teaching statement, research statement with undergraduates, unofficial transcripts, and contact information for 3 references.

Note: Please be sure to upload any/all documents during the application process. You are able to upload more than one document. Once your application has been submitted, you will not be able to upload any additional documents, or update any information on your application.
