Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Integrative Physiology, or related field.
- A focused research agenda using a physiologically based, mechanistic approach that applies cellular and molecular techniques to studying metabolic function.
- Record of published research or demonstrated research potential.
- Record of securing funding (for appointment at Associate rank) or strong potential to secure funding (Assistant rank) to support their research agenda.
- Ability to teach and develop both undergraduate and graduate courses related to Exercise Physiology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A research agenda that focuses on molecular mechanisms of metabolic function as it relates to obesity and/or cardiometabolic disorders such as diabetes, cancer, and other co-morbidities.
- Post-doctoral research experience.
- Previous experience with multi-omics.
- Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate and graduate (MS/PhD) Exercise Physiology courses such as Exercise Physiology Lab, Exercise Testing and Prescription, Endocrinology, Metabolism, or Exercise and Aging.
- Experience mentoring and incorporating students (undergraduate, masters, and PhD) into a research program.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with varied researchers employing physiological and behavior approaches to address issues of public health across the lifespan.
Description: The Department of Health and Exercise Science at the University of Oklahoma invites applicants for a 9-month, tenure-track or tenured position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Exercise Physiology. Applicants should have a research focus in Cellular/Molecular Exercise Physiology with an emphasis on metabolic dysfunction and associated co-morbidities such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and pulmonary disease. The appointment will begin in Fall 2026. Salary, rank, and start-up funds are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
- Seek external funding.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses. The expected teaching load of this position will be 2 courses per semester; typically, 1 undergraduate and 1 graduate.
- Perform service to the profession, university, college, and department.
Workload Distribution: Assistant Professor - 45% research, 45% teaching, 10% service; Associate Professor - 40% research, 40% teaching, 20% service.
About the Department: The Department of Health and Exercise Science is a growing interdisciplinary program with more than 1100 undergraduate students, more than 50 graduate students, and 17 faculty. It is nationally ranked by the National Academy of Kinesiology and focuses on Exercise Physiology and Health Promotion.
