The College of Education and Human Development at Augusta University is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor for a full time, tenure track position to play a crucial role in shaping the future of our online Higher Education doctoral program. We are looking for innovative self-starters who will develop new graduate courses based on best practices ensuring the success of our new Online Doctorate of Education in Educational Innovation with a concentration in Higher Education.

Responsibilities

Teaching - 60%

Developing and teaching advanced graduate-level courses in Higher Education and Educational Leadership and serving on or chairing dissertations (teaching a 3-3 load each academic year).
Candidates should be prepared to deliver courses online (asynchronous and synchronous).

Research - 30%

Conducting and supervising scholarly activities.

Service - 10%

Providing service as appropriate to the department, college, university, the community, and the profession.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate from an accredited university in Higher Education or a closely related field and have developed or have the potential to develop their own curriculum online.

Additionally, the candidate must have a proven track record in online instruction in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments on a higher-education level.

The candidate should be well versed in the following design principles for online learning experiences:

  • Universal Design for Learning principles
  • Community of Practice framework
  • Authentic learning assessments
  • Active and generative learning
  • Data-based continuous improvement of courses and teaching

Assistant Professor: An early-career as a faculty member, who has earned a terminal degree in their discipline. There is evidence that the candidate's body of work represents research potential to achieve national/international recognition with further development. Show beginning evidence of impact either in the knowledge-base or practice. The candidate should show characteristics of being outstanding in teaching. The candidate will demonstrate an understanding of service to the program, department, and college.

Associate Professor: A mid-career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience. There is evidence that the candidate's body of work has a focused research and/or scholarship agenda that represents a significant step towards national/international recognition. There is evidence of impact either in the knowledge-base or practice. Candidate has evidence of outstanding teaching. Candidate has evidence of substantial service to their program, department, college, university, and/or the profession.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching and leadership and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and to mentor educational leaders. Familiarity with Brightspace/D2L is preferred.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc. while also considering internal equity and market data.
