Job Summary
The Department of Teaching and Leading in the College of Education and Human Development at Augusta University is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor with a background in Mathematics Education (or a closely related field) for a full-time, non-tenure track position to play a crucial role in shaping the future of pre-service and in-service teacher candidates. The expected start date for this position is August 2026.
Responsibilities
Teaching - 80%
The candidate will develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses primarily focused on teaching mathematics to PK-12 students. Candidates will be expected to teach a 4-4 load and to do so both online and on-campus.
Research - 10%
The candidate will be in the process of establishing or continuing a robust research agenda and will seek to develop a national or international presence in their field. Further, they will be familiar with quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research techniques and use various methods to conduct rigorous, meaningful scholarship within the field of education.
Service - 10%
It is expected that the candidate provides service as appropriate to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have earned their terminal degree from an accredited university in Mathematics Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Teaching and Learning, or a related educational field and to have developed or have the potential to develop a rigorous line of research. Applicants who are ABD are encouraged to apply so long as they are expected to graduate in the summer of 2026.
Assistant Professor: Early level career as a faculty member.
Associate Professor: Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be: Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation; Evidence of ability as a teacher; Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned; Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and, Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract. The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0. Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc. while also considering internal equity and market data. Advancement through the faculty ranks at Augusta University is only through the annual Promotion and Tenure process in which faculty may apply if eligible (typically five-year increments).
