Description:

The Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track/tenured faculty position in the Astrophysics group. Qualified applicants in all areas of Astronomy and Astrophysics (theory, observation, and instrumentation) are encouraged to apply. The appointments are expected to begin in August 2026, at the rank of assistant or associate professor. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

About us: Our department has active research groups in Astronomy and Astrophysics; Atomic, Molecular, and Chemical Physics; High Energy Physics; and Condensed Matter Physics. The department hosts an active NSF/REU program. Current research activities within the astronomy and astrophysics group include observational and theoretical studies of astrophysics at all scales, including but not limited to stellar activity, white dwarfs, AGN, gravitational lensing, galaxy clusters, and exoplanets. The Astrophysics group is a member of the Astrophysical Research Consortium (ARC), with a 10% share of the APO 3.5m telescope and enjoys access to the Oklahoma Supercomputing Center for Education and Research (OSCER). Current faculty include members of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey V, the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN), the upcoming missions 4MOST, Ultraviolet Transient Astronomy Satellite (ULTRASAT), and the Vera Rubin Observatory.

A recent generous gift to the department has endowed the Astrophysics group with two prize postdoctoral fellowship positions (in perpetuity), as well as sustained funds for a seminar series, graduate student support, our participation in ARC, and other initiatives. For further information about our department and astrophysics group, see https://ou.edu/cas/physics-astronomy.
