ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF SMALL ANIMAL RADIATION ONCOLOGY- ACADEMIC CLINICIAN

The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in Small Animal Radiation Oncology. This position is in the Academic Clinician (AC) track at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on the candidate's experience.

Academic Clinicians spend the majority of their effort in clinical service and clinical teaching. The successful candidate is expected to have a history of or potential as an exemplary clinician and educator. Faculty in the AC track in Radiation Oncology provide clinical service/teaching for 42 weeks per year in the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital, including patient care, clinical instruction of veterinary students, training of specialty and rotating interns and oncology residents, and supervision of veterinary nurses. Potential for collaborative research exists, but advancement does not require research.

Clinical responsibilities include treatment planning (including manual, forward, and inverse planning), participation in comprehensive oncology rounds, student, nurse, and house officer instruction and mentoring, and primary care of radiation oncology patients. Time outside of clinical service is for professional development, citizenship in the Department, and didactic teaching. Developing or maintaining independent scholarship or research is not required for reappointment or promotion.

Faculty AC positions are long-term, non-tenured Associated Faculty positions with reappointment every three years. Promotion along the University Academic ranks is available. Salary is commensurate with experience. Full University benefits, including vacation, health, dental, vision, retirement, and tuition reimbursement, accompany the position. Applications are accepted, and the start date is negotiable.

The successful candidate will join Penn Vet's Radiation Oncology service, which includes a Full Clinical Professor (AC track), an Assistant Professor (CE track), dedicated staff, and plans to start a residency program in Fall 2026. Advantages include a Comprehensive Oncology service, support from various specialties, a dynamic hospital with a diverse caseload, and excellent support staff. Facilities include Varian Silhouette with RapidArc, OBI/CBCT, Eclipse TPS, and Aria R&V, with upgrades underway. Dedicated medical physics support and imaging modalities like 64-slice CT and 1.5T MRI are available. Opportunities for collaboration exist with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Perelman School of Medicine.

This position suits junior faculty interested in collaborative clinical practice in a multi-specialty academic referral center with a high caseload. The Comprehensive Oncology program offers outstanding services and participates in clinical trials, supported by centers like the Veterinary Clinical Investigation Center (https://www.vet.upenn.edu/research/clinical-trials-vcic/about-the-vcic) and the Penn Vet Cancer Center (https://www.vet.upenn.edu/research/centers-laboratories/center/penn-vet-cancer-center).

The Ryan Veterinary Hospital is in a vibrant urban environment with cultural resources and access to outdoor amenities.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a veterinary degree and achieved certification in the American College of Veterinary Radiology-RO or be eligible for certification.

Application Instructions: Applications are accepted immediately. Interested applicants should apply electronically to https://apply.interfolio.com/170989, attaching a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, and names of three references. Letters should be addressed to Wilfried Mai, DVM, MS, PhD, Dipl ACVR, Dipl ECVDI, Professor of Radiology and Search Committee Chair.

Questions should be sent to Kelli Cave, Search Committee Coordinator.
