"Assistant/Associate Professor of Statistics"

The Department of Statistics at Western Michigan University seeks candidates for a tenure-track, 1.0 FTE, academic year, Assistant/Associate Professor position beginning August 15, 2026 on its main campus in Kalamazoo, MI.

Job duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics and data science, advising students, conducting research, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, writing and submitting grant proposals, and service. Typically, 50% of the position is devoted to teaching with the remaining 50% of the workload shared between research and service responsibilities.

Minimum qualifications for the position are as follows: a Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Applied Statistics or Data Science by December 31, 2026, excellent oral and written communication skills, potential for teaching excellence, and potential to develop and maintain an outstanding research program in statistics or data science related methodology. Preferred qualifications are as follows: ability to teach a variety of statistics classes at various levels, expertise in statistical methodology, teaching experience as a sole instructor of record, and a demonstrated commitment to supporting the success of students from underrepresented groups.

The Department of Statistics offers a Ph.D. degree in Statistics; M.S. degrees in Statistics and Data Science; and undergraduate majors/minors in Statistics and Data Science. In addition, the Statistics department offers graduate certificates in Applied Statistics and in Biostatistics.
