Job Description

The Director of Clinical Skills is a full-time faculty position responsible for overseeing the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of the clinical skills program at the Lincoln Memorial University-College of Veterinary Medicine at Orange Park (LMU-OPCVM). This role integrates teaching, administration, and leadership of the Clinical Skills section to enhance the practical competencies of veterinary students. Faculty in this role are expected to foster student learning, participate in research or scholarly activity, and engage in service to the profession and community. The Director provides leadership in curriculum integration and development, model-based simulation and training, assessment design, faculty development, and delivery of curriculum.

Note: Academic rank upon hire will be determined by university policies administered by the LMU Office of Academic Affairs. Scholarly activity is expected of all faculty members. Prior evidence of interest and experience in research is an asset but not required for this position. Mentorship in research activity will be provided.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree.
  • Eligibility for veterinary licensure in Florida.
  • Minimum of five years of veterinary clinical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree and/or specialty board certification in a relevant area.
  • Experience in an academic teaching or administrative role.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarship and innovation in veterinary education.

Job Duties

  • This role should break down to .5 teaching, .3 research, and .2 service (committees and administrative)
  • Develop and deliver clinical skills courses, classes, and laboratory sessions that integrate across the veterinary curriculum
  • Create instructional resources, including videos, handouts, and presentations, aligned with curricular objectives
  • Establish and maintain course goals, objectives, and outcomes for each skills-based learning activity.
  • Uphold high standards of intellectual integrity and academic excellence, ensuring course content is accurate, current, and relevant.
  • Utilize model-based simulation and scenario learning to foster decision-making and skill development
  • Design, implement, and lead OSCE assessments each semester.
  • Maintain accurate and secure records of student grades, performance, and evaluations.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student development
  • Prepare and administer assessments that measure achievement of learning outcomes in clinical skills
  • Continuously evaluate and refine program content, equipment, and assessment tools
  • Provide leadership for the Clinical Skills section, including faculty, staff, and support personnel
  • Assist in College compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies.
  • Complete institutional, accreditation, and programmatic reports as required
  • Effectively allocate resources, budgets, scheduling, and operations for clinical skills teaching spaces
  • Participate in College and University committees, task forces, and initiatives
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff within the Clinical Skills section
  • Collaborate on recruitment, onboarding, and development of team members to ensure effective support of the curriculum.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and growth-oriented culture within the section.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, professional development, and performance feedback to promote excellence in teaching and operations
  • Develop and/or engage in research/scholarship that enhances teaching and contributes to new knowledge in clinical veterinary medicine or veterinary education consistent with OPCVM mission and research expectations
  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary research projects and grant applications
  • Mentor students in scholarly inquiry and research skill development
  • Build strong working relationships with faculty, staff, and external partners to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Engage in outreach and professional service activities that support veterinary education and the mission of the College
  • Coordinate seminars, workshops, and professional development sessions related to clinical education and simulation.
  • Oversee the design, operation, and maintenance of models and simulation facilities
  • Integrate simulation-based methodologies into teaching and assessment of clinical skills
  • Oversee the management of inventory, supplies, and equipment for clinical skills laboratories, including model-building
  • Implement innovative approaches to improving student learning and clinical readiness
  • Maintain professional veterinary licensure as appropriate for responsibilities of the role
  • Complete required continuing education as mandated by the Florida Commission for Independent Education and other relevant licensing or regulatory bodies
  • Demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional growth
  • Perform related duties in support of the College's and University's mission and evolving needs
