The Department of Health Promotion Sciences in the Hudson College of Public Health on the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences campus in Oklahoma City seeks an assistant/associate professor for a 12-month tenure-track position. The College offers programs for MPH, MS, MPH/MSW, and PhD degrees.

Primary Location: University of Oklahoma Health Sciences; Hudson College of Public Health; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Primary Responsibilities

Assist in the direction, organization, and evaluation process of the education, research, and service activities of the department. Teach graduate courses. Serve on and chair masters and doctoral committees. Develop and sustain an active portfolio of extramurally funded research. Conduct research and disseminate findings to the academic, professional, and local communities. Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or other appropriate University authority.

General Description

Responsibilities include teaching 1-2 graduate level courses per semester (20%-40%), advising/mentoring 5-10 graduate students (5%-10%), and performing academic/community service (5%-10%). Remaining time is filled with academic/professional projects related to personal and/or College interests. Collaboration is widespread and encouraged among our seven University of Oklahoma Health Sciences (OUHS) colleges, focused Centers, State agencies, sovereign Tribes, and community partners. A research emphasis related to cancer, diabetes, or geroscience would align with strategic priorities of the OUHS. In alignment with strategic priorities of the Department of Health Promotion Sciences, successful candidates also will have experience with developing and implementing social and behavioral strategies that reduce health risks, leveraging health assets, and redressing inequities and advancing health for individuals, families, social networks, neighborhoods, organizations, and communities. Specific desired skillsets include qualitative and quantitative data analysis, program evaluation, and advanced research methods in the social and behavioral sciences. The Hudson College of Public Health currently has over 40 faculty members and many adjunct teaching/research faculty. We offer an incentive package for those able to attract extramural funding.

Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree (Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Science, or Doctor of Public Health) in Health Promotion Sciences, Public Health, or a closely related field.

Candidates eligible at the rank of Assistant Professor should have minimally one year of experience beyond receiving their doctorate degree. Candidates eligible at the rank of Associate Professor should have 5 years of public health/academic experience.

Experience with developing and implementing social and behavioral strategies that reduce health risks, leveraging health assets, redressing inequities and advancing health for individuals, families, social networks, neighborhoods, organizations, and communities.

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

Specific desired skillsets include qualitative and quantitative data analysis, program evaluation, and advanced research methods in the social and behavioral sciences.
