Assistant/Associate Professor, School of Dental Medicine (Full-Time)
The School of Dental Medicine at Stony Brook University is seeking applications for a full-time 12-month, tenure-track or tenured faculty appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor with neuroscience/neurobiology research expertise in the mechanisms, prevention, modulation, or treatment of pain/neuropathies. All candidates must have a PhD degree, postdoctoral training, and active NIH funding.
The successful applicant will contribute to the teaching of basic science courses in the dental curriculum and in the graduate program, and participate in service at the college, university and/or national levels, as appropriate for their academic rank. The successful candidate will possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that promotes collegiality, collaboration and cultural diversity among members of various education, research and service communities. The research programs in the SDM include oral and dental stem cell biology, biology of skin and mucosal grafting, wound repair, host modulation, inflammation and oral microbiology. Dental-centered research areas include enamel and dentin bonding, dental materials, psychosocial aspects of health and illness, applications of cone-beam CT, dental implants, 3D printing, and applications of artificial intelligence in dental imaging. Stony Brook University, an R1 university and member of the Association of American Universities, provides a highly interactive environment with extensive opportunities for collaborations within the School of Dental Medicine as well as with faculty in the School of Medicine and other schools/colleges. Its vibrant neuroscience community is distributed across several departments, centers, institutes and schools and include the Stony Brook Neurosciences Institute, Department of Neurobiology and Behavior, and pain research within the Department of Anesthesiology. Excellent molecular, transgenic, behavioral testing and imaging core facilities are available.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD degree (or foreign equivalent) in neuroscience or a related field
- Postdoctoral training in neuroscience
- Active NIH funding (e.g. R01, R21, K99/R00, etc.)
- Teaching experience, within the last five years, of professional or graduate students
- Mentoring experience, within the last five years, of professional or graduate students
Preferred Qualifications:
- DDS/DMD degree (or foreign equivalent) from a CODA-accredited dental school or college
- Teaching experience at a dental and/or medical school
- A record of research and/or scholarship
