SUMMARY
This is a supervisory position responsible for managing a service-oriented and comprehensive compliance program to ensure all athletics programs and institutional support areas and activities comply with NCAA, conference, and university regulations. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Deputy Director of Athletics.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in sports management, athletics administration, physical education, recreation, education or a related field is required. Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. Two years of related experience is required. Experience with NCAA intercollegiate athletics is required. Supervisory experience is required. Experience with NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics is preferred. Candidates who do not meet the experience requirement but have a master’s degree in a related field may also be considered on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Oversees and ensures all processes, procedures, and systems necessary to direct the athletics department comply with NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations for the varsity sport programs.
- Serves as primary contact with the conference office, NCAA eligibility center, National Letter of Intent office, and NCAA membership services.
- Develops and implements athletics compliance policies and procedures.
- Supervises assigned employees.
- Monitors internal and external financial aid/benefits, recruiting, personnel, playing/practice seasons, and summer camps/clinics.
- Provides NCAA and conference rules education and interpretation programs for administrators, coaches, support staff, student-athletes, booster groups, and campus partners/constituents, promoting a culture of compliance and institutional control.
- Files all required NCAA and conference forms, reports, waivers, and appeals for review and approval prior to submission to governing authority.
- Coordinates investigation of known and/or alleged rules violations. Informs the Director of Athletics of all alleged and known violations and handles all correspondence with the NCAA and affiliated conferences regarding rules violations and follow up responses.
- Administers athletic team eligibility and continuing education meetings and manages all resulting paperwork.
- Ensures all student-athletes are eligible to participate in intercollegiate athletics programs, to include certifying the continuing eligibility of current student-athletes.
- Coordinates audits and periodic compliance reviews while operating within the scope and intent of the NCAA, conference and university regulations.
- Oversees and monitors departmental name, image, and likeness (NIL) program.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the conference and the NCAA.
- Knowledge of developmental academic advising, retention management, and/or instructional strategies effective for college-age students.
- Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
- Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement solutions.
- Ability to acquire and maintain knowledge of university curriculum and degree requirements and to interpret them in the context of individual student needs.
- Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
- Ability to learn office and university-specific software.
- Ability to train and supervise others.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
