Assistant Athletic Trainer

Job Summary

At our pediatric sports medicine program, you'll be part of a passionate, dedicated team that makes a real difference in young athletes' lives every single day. If you're excited to be part of a compassionate, fast-paced environment, and you love variety in your work, we want YOU to join us!

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care and Injury Evaluation: You'll be the friendly face greeting our pediatric athletes and their families, collecting important medical history, evaluating injuries, and making sure each athlete feels comfortable, safe, and cared for.
  • Casting, Bracing, & Clinic Care: Help apply and remove casts, assist with removing surgical pins, sutures, and post-op dressings, and guide patients on how to use braces, boots, crutches, splints, and other Durable Medical Equipment (DME). Your hands-on care will make a big difference in their recovery!
  • Clinic Support: You'll be the go-to expert for keeping the clinic running smoothly, from documenting in our Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system with accuracy to coordinating appointments and scheduling. You'll help ensure everything flows seamlessly throughout the day.
  • Back Office Support: Whether you're answering patient calls, prepping charts, or making post-op follow-up calls, your organizational skills will be key in keeping things efficient and organized behind the scenes.
  • Rehabilitation Management: Working with physical therapists and team athletic trainers to ensure young athletes are rehabilitating and returning safely to sport.
  • Community Engagement: Working with our pediatric sports medicine team to develop relationships with youth sports teams and schools, helping keep young athletes healthy and in the game!

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); one year of experience as an athletic trainer; and demonstrated effective communication and human relation skills. National Athletic Trainers Association (N.A.T.A.) certification preferred.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Preferences

We're looking for a dedicated and capable team member who can take on the essential functions of this role with confidence and professionalism.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Essential Skills: Ability to perform all the job duties outlined above, providing quality care and ensuring a smooth clinic experience for our patients.
  • Communication: Strong human relation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members. Your ability to connect with others is key in making each patient's experience positive.
  • Specialty Proficiency: You'll need to demonstrate proficiency in our clinic's specific orthopedic skills within six weeks of hire. Don't worry, you'll have time to build your expertise, and specialty skills will be introduced after completing basic competency testing.
  • Safety First: Be aware that, as part of this role, you will have potential exposure to bodily fluids, blood, used needles, and other contaminants. Safety protocols are in place, and it's essential to adhere to them as part of the daily job hazards.
  • Physical Demands: This job will keep you on your feet! You'll need to be able to help transfer patients, hold extremities, and operate equipment, including bending and positioning yourself as required to work with different tools and machinery. The ability to withstand the physical demands of being on your feet and moving throughout the day is essential to maintaining the high level of care we provide.
