The Assistant Athletic Trainer, Women's Tennis & Soccer plays a critical role in supporting the health, safety, and performance of SDSU student-athletes. Reporting to the Sr. Associate Athletic Director of Athletic Medicine, this position provides comprehensive clinical athletic training services, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. Working closely with coaches, physicians, and sports medicine staff, the role ensures student-athletes receive high-quality care that promotes peak performance and long-term wellness. Key Responsibilities
- Prevent, evaluate, and treat athletic injuries while developing and implementing rehabilitation and return-to-play plans.
- Communicate injury status and treatment plans effectively with coaching staff, physicians, and sports medicine personnel.
- Provide on-site coverage for practices and competitions, including travel to away contests.
- Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, conditioning, and overall physical wellness.
- Assist with inventory management, medical supplies, and related administrative duties within the athletic training program.

Position Information
- This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2027, with the possibility of reappointment.
- This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. (Ability to travel to away contests)
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University. Currently, there are 18 sport programs, approximately 450 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following: The Aztec Club, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, Corporate Sales, Development, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video.

Education and Experience
Equivalent to bachelor's degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Course work must include completion of the Board of Certification (BOC) curriculum requirements.
Key Qualifications
- Current knowledge of medical supply vendors, quality, and costs.
- Must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians, and other health professionals.
- Experience in assigned sport at collegiate, international, and/or professional team level as a certified Athletic Trainer for two to five years beyond Bachelor's degree, which may include a graduate assistantship is preferred.
- Proficiency with Biodex, SwimEx, and Alter-G.
- Additional credentials of advance study in an athletic training related subject matter. Examples are: functional evaluation/rehabilitation, instrumented or manual soft tissue mobilization, Kinesiotape, etc.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel.
- Prior experience performing inventory, budget, and insurance duties in a sports medicine environment.
Licenses and/or Certifications Required
- Certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification.
- Possess and maintain certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and first aid.
- Must stay current with these certifications and submit proof to the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Athletic Medicine.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a California driver's license within 10 days of hire.

Compensation:
- Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience, in alignment with the department's budget and equity guidelines.
- Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 1 ($4,482).
- Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the CSUEU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,482 - $6,530 per month (Step 1 - Step 20).
- Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.
