Job Description:
Position Summary:
Provides all intercollegiate student-athletes with the best possible athletic exercise and medical care as needed. The incumbent will assist the Head Athletic Trainer, primarily focusing on Men's Ice Hockey, with the following major responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Understands and adheres to the Utica University Athletic Department philosophy.
- Provides all intercollegiate student-athletes with preventive care and assessment including exercise prescription and kinesthetic analysis. Also provides injury rehabilitation using cryotherapy, ultrasound, electric stimulation, whirlpools, and open/closed kinetic chain exercise protocols. Utilize medical referrals as required with guidance from the Team Physician.
- Assists Head Athletic Trainer by providing practice and home game coverage of all intercollegiate athletic events as assigned. Travel as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer. Assists in preparing and executing pre-participation screenings. Assists in keeping general inventory and supply records.
- Keeps contemporaneous and up to date, confidential medical records including history, daily treatment records, injury reports and physician referrals while in compliance with all current regulations. Coordinates team injury summaries with the appropriate head coach and Head Athletic Trainer.
- Works harmoniously with coaches, athletic staff, students, team physician, and constituents while adhering to team philosophies. Exhibits a strong work ethic while setting a positive example in action and appearance for students.
- Coordinates insurance information with appropriate university official. Submits student-athlete accident insurance claims when necessary.
- Takes an active role in the development of the department's strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership. Works closely with department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.
- Responsible for working with supervisor and other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and departmental goals and key performance indicators.
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor degree required, master's degree preferred.
- 2 years collegiate athletic training experience preferred.
Certifications:
- NATABOC certified required.
- Must possess Professional CPR/AED or equivalent.
- Must hold or be eligible for NYS licensure
Skills/Abilities:
- Must be willing and able to travel as required.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A strong commitment to diversity and work continually to enhance diversity of our students, faculty, and staff.
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Supervise work-study students.
Driving Responsibility:
- Must maintain a clean driving record as defined by University insurance carrier guidelines.
- Motor vehicle record will be monitored regularly using NYS License Event Notification Service or License Monitor, Inc. for out of state licenses.
- Will be required to attend van training annually.
Travel:
- Travel is required.
