Job Summary / Basic Function
Assistant Baseball Coach in collaboration with Head Baseball Coach assists in the direction and administration of the Baseball Program. REPORTS TO: Head Baseball Coach
FUNCTION: The Assistant Coach, in collaboration with the Head Baseball Coach assists in the direction and administration of the Baseball program in a manner that reflects the athletics' department program goals. This individual reports directly to the Head Baseball Coach and Athletic Director and is responsible for creating an environment that is supportive of individual differences and maximizes the educational and athletic development of the student athletes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. TEACHING AND TRAINING
- Assists in planning and implementing the in-season and off-season training schedule for student athletes and staff.
- Assists in formulating and implementing daily practice plans that demonstrate a high amount of time on task, that are progressive, are congruent with team and individual ability, and are consistent with sound conditioning principles.
- Assists in instructing student athletes in the skills and strategies necessary to maximize performance.
- Assists in establishing general expectations for participation.
- Assists in appropriately disciplining student athletes when expectations are not met or rules are broken.
II. COUNSELING/ADVISING STUDENT ATHLETES
- Assists in reinforcing academic success as a priority and works with appropriate school officials to monitor academic progress.
- Respond positively to individual athletes' issues and concerns and help seek effective solutions.
- Maintain appropriate coach-athlete relationships.
- Demonstrate and instill in players a respect for and courtesy toward opposing players, coaches, and officials.
III. GENERAL PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
- Assists in conducting the program with the scope and policies established by the institution and the athletics department.
- Helps establish positive and effective communication with the athletic director and all support staff.
- Be knowledgeable about and appropriately implement governing body rules.
- Assists in directing, supervising and evaluating all assistant coaching activities with regard to instruction, scouting, recruiting, and other identified tasks.
- Assists in scheduling events in consultation with the head coach and athletic director.
IV. FUNDRAISING & BUDGET MANAGEMENT
- Deposit all revenue in accordance with university policies and procedures.
- Acquire bids for purchases in accordance with university policies and procedures.
- Assists with budget management.
- Work to promote camps and develop camp brochures and flyers within university guidelines and procedures.
- Develop camp budgets, staff training, and implementation and oversight of camp activities.
V. PUBLIC RELATIONS
- Maintain an exemplary standard of conduct which reflects the highest level of professionalism and good judgment on and off the field.
- Extend your involvement outside the athletic department by speaking to campus or community groups and by participating in campus and community events.
- Maintain positive public relations with media, parents, alumni, officials, volunteers, fans, competitors, and other constituent group.
VI. RECRUITING
- Articulate and implement a plan that is consistent with the college's mission.
- Ensure that all recruiting staff is knowledgeable about local, state and NCAA regulations regarding recruiting.
- Cultivate a recruiting network that helps identify prospects that match the academic profile of the institution.
VII. EVENT ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANCE
Assist in event administration of home athletic contests and high school athletic contests as needed by athletic administration. This may include but are not limited to team bench set up, field preparation, greet visiting team and officials, provide water for officials, direct student work force and act as game day administrator for events.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Experience with NCAA rules and regulations
- Experience in training and developing Baseball athletes
- Knowledge of Fundraising and Budget management.
- Recruiting knowledge
- Ability to throw batting practice
- Organizational Skills
Minimum of Education / Training
Required Education Summary: At least 2 years of playing experience at Collegiate level 2-3 years of coaching at club and high school level.
