Assistant Baseball Coach

Whitman College is located in the historic community of Walla Walla and is home to an intellectually diverse community. The Assistant Baseball Coach supports the Head Coach in administering all aspects of the Men's Baseball Program in alignment with the College's values and NCAA Division III philosophy. This is a 0.93 FTE position.

Principal Accountabilities

Coaching & Player Development (50%)

• Assist the Head Coach with practice planning, execution, and on-field instruction.
• Assist in developing and implementing game plans and strategies.
• Perform coaching duties during pre-game and in-game.
• Serve as a mentor, teacher, leader, and role model to student-athletes.

Recruitment (25%)

• Assist in scouting and evaluating skilled and academically qualified student-athletes.
• Assist and lead camps, clinics, tournaments, and events for recruitment.

Team Operations (10%)

• Support coordination of team events and travel.
• Assist in monitoring academic progress and serve as a program liaison.
• Work within program financial parameters for logistics like transportation and equipment.

Outreach & Representation (5%)

• Support coordination of alumni and community programming.
• Represent the College with honesty, integrity, and sportsmanship.
• Develop positive relationships with officials and colleagues.

Compliance & Safety (5%)

• Understand and work within NCAA Division III rules.
• Proactive in safety, risk management, and injury prevention.
• Responsible for 40 hours of game management duties.

Evolving Responsibilities (5%)

• Complete special projects as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and recruitment skills.
• Outstanding skill instruction and teaching abilities.

• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Appreciation for intercollegiate athletics in an academic environment.
• Physical ability to execute instruction and handle loads up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.
• 2+ years of coaching experience.
• Ability to throw quality batting practice.
• Valid driver's license with specific experience criteria.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to throw competitive batting practice.
• Experience with baseball technologies like Trackman and Blast Motion.
