CMS ATHLETICS

The Joint CMS Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation Program is comprised of student-athletes from Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps Colleges and offers a comprehensive program of regular physical education, intramural, recreational, club, and varsity sports. CMS varsity teams compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) as a member of NCAA Division III.

CMS SWIMMING AND DIVING

CMS Swimming and Diving boasts a strong history of success. Our men’s and women’s squads have earned team conference championships 62 times. At the national level, CMS has placed in the top 15 at the NCAA D-III Championships 40 times.

BASIC FUNCTION

The Assistant Coach or Associate Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving/Aquatics Operations Manager plays a significant leadership role in the administration and daily operation of the CMS Swimming and Diving program.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coaching: Independently develop, implement, and oversee training plans, practice instruction, and competitive preparation.
  • Recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
  • Comply with all NCAA Division III, CMS Athletics, and SCIAC rules.
  • Aquatics Operations: Recruit, certify, oversee, and schedule lifeguards.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS & SKILLS

EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is required.

EXPERIENCE: Previous collegiate participation and coaching are preferred.

LICENSES: A valid driver’s license is required. National certification as a lifeguard and lifeguard instructor, and certification in CPR and first aid are required.
