Job Description:
Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for the Assistant Coach, Sailing position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 38 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-DI).
This seasonal/intermittent position is a part time, 11 month role to assist the Head Coach, Sailing in all phases of the Coed & Women's Sailing Programs. This includes recruiting, student-athlete development, video analysis, coaching, and administrative duties such as maintaining logs and other compliance information.
Assistant coach will be responsible for maintaining professional conduct, positive sportsmanship and acting as a role model for the student-athletes. The candidate must demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills and must be able to work effectively with staff, faculty and other members of the University. The position supports all efforts to continue to attract the nation's top sailors to our Division I non-scholarship program.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Collegiate, professional, high school, or club sports coaching experience, preferred.
Job Competencies
- Ability to recruit within NCAA and Ivy League Rules.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication & computer skills, necessary
- Demonstrated ability to work with and relate well to students
- Excellent sport specific technical, tactical and strategic knowledge.
- Basic proficiency in excel, word, internet & email capabilities.
- Social media experience, helpful.
- Familiarity with ARMS and Teamworks, or similar, preferred.
- Prior experience with video editing software, helpful.
- Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the game and ability to coach & motivate.
- The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete a criminal background, Education and DMV check satisfactory to Brown University prior to commencing employment.
