Job Summary

This position supports the athletic training staff in delivering top-notch medical care to student-athletes and visiting teams. This includes the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of injuries for our student-athletes, irrespective of race, creed, color, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender. Emphasis is placed on preventive measures such as taping, protective equipment, and flexibility training. Additionally, the incumbent will provide a professional clinical environment for Long Beach State students aspiring to a career in athletic training.

Key Responsibilities

• Injury evaluation, treatment, and first-aid care.
• Cover home events and travel with assigned team(s).
• Plan and implement rehabilitation programs for serious injuries or post-surgical conditions.
• Assist in supervision of student athlete trainers in the training room and at the practice or competition facility.
• Keep and maintain medical records for each athlete or sport, including date of injury, evaluation of injury, treatment or rehabilitation protocol and progress report.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate will possess strong computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and Sportsware, to effectively track injury and treatment records of student-athletes. Additionally, they should have a solid understanding of physical therapy modalities and treatment protocols to ensure standardized care for student-athletes.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• A bachelor's degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study is required.
• Master's degree preferred.

Physical Summary

Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Licenses / Certificates

• Athletic training certification in good standing by the National Athletic Trainers Association - Board of Certification required.
• CPR/AED certification required.
• First Aid certification required.
• Valid California driver's license required.
• Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Division Athletics

Compensation The salary range for this classification is $24.31 to $46.90 per hour.

Time Base Hourly/intermittent on call temporary position. Successful candidates may be appointed for a few days and up to one (1) year depending on the assignment. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
