Job Summary: The Assistant Coach for Positional Players supports the Head Softball Coach by overseeing all aspects of positional player development, including training, performance analysis, and recruiting. This position works collaboratively within the coaching staff to ensure the holistic development of the positional players in the program.

Job Description:

  • Coaching and Training:
    • Assist in developing athletes at a specific defensive or offensive position (e.g., infield, outfield, and catching).
    • Design and implement position-specific drills to improve technique, footwork, decision-making, and game awareness.
    • Provide individualized instruction based on each player's strengths and areas for growth.
    • Utilize video analysis and modern training tools (Onform) to evaluate performance and track improvement.
  • Game Day Support:
    • Travel with the team and assist with pre-game preparation, including warm-ups, scouting reports, and defensive alignments.
    • Offer in-game adjustments, strategy recommendations, and situational coaching based on opponent tendencies.
    • Track player performance and provide feedback to help athletes execute effectively under pressure.
    • Collaborate with the coaching staff to develop comprehensive game plans.
  • Recruiting and Team Management:
    • Identify and recruit prospective positional players at the NJCAA level, and make recommendations to Head Coach.
    • Stay current on the latest coaching strategies, training methodologies, and player development trends.
    • Contribute to the overall success of the program by supporting the head coach in long-term team goals.
  • Administrative Tasks:
    • Accompany the team on all road trips, tournaments, and away games.
    • Assist with managing player schedules, ensuring athletes are prepared and on time for travel-related activities.
    • Support players during travel to maintain focus, recovery routines, and game readiness.
  • Other Duties:
    • Stay current on best practices in positional player coaching and training methods (infield, outfield, and catchers).
    • Ensure compliance with NJCAA, institutional, and departmental guidelines.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive environment for all student-athletes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Positional player playing or coaching experience.
  • Technical knowledge of goalkeeping techniques and training.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record is required.

Compensation: $2,500.00/yearly stipend

Schedule: Hours will vary based on the athletic calendar and departmental priorities.
