To add to our esteemed staff, we are seeking an experienced Assistant Director, Advisement for our New York City (downtown Manhattan) campus.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director, Advisement is a student-centered role that combines high-touch academic advising for graduate students with recruitment and program support responsibilities. This role plays a critical part in guiding students from enrollment through graduation, while also collaborating with faculty and program leadership on conversion, engagement, and student success strategies. The Assistant Director serves as a key liaison between advising and graduate program teams, helping prospective and current students navigate academic requirements and institutional processes.

Position Duties:

  • Provide individualized, holistic academic advising to graduate students from enrollment through program completion.
  • Support students in academic planning, course registration, degree progression, and university navigation.
  • Monitor student progress using academic audits and proactively intervene when students are off track.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources, including tutoring, counseling, financial aid, and career services.
  • Develop and implement academic success plans for students in academic difficulty, including those on probation.
  • Participate in graduate recruitment initiatives, including representing programs at info sessions, webinars, orientation, and admitted student events.
  • Collaborate with faculty and program staff to develop compelling communications and presentations for prospective students.
  • Serve as a point of contact for newly admitted graduate students with questions about program structure, course registration, and the transition to graduate school.
  • Work closely with graduate program leadership to align advising with curriculum requirements, course scheduling, and program outcomes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of workflows, tools, and communications that improve the graduate student experience.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in student information systems and advising platforms.
  • Contribute to assessment efforts related to graduate advising effectiveness and student success.
  • Represent the advising unit on university committees, task forces, or special projects related to graduate education and student support.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in academic advising or student services, preferably at the graduate level.
  • Strong understanding of graduate education structures, policies, and academic pathways.
  • Experience supporting prospective or incoming students through recruitment and orientation processes.
  • Experience working with international students is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high levels of student support.
  • Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., Banner, Degree Works) and advising platforms (e.g., CRM Advise, Starfish) preferred.
