Department: The Women's, Gender, & Equity Center at UMBC advances gender equity from an intersectional feminist perspective through co-curricular programming, support services, and advocacy for marginalized individuals and communities. Position Overview: The Assistant Director of the Women’s, Gender, & Equity Center will focus on priorities, initiatives, and support related to fostering student success and promoting inclusive excellence. This role will lead the Women’s Center in developing, implementing, and evaluating co-curricular programming and services centered on gender, equity, and social justice. A key emphasis will be on cultivating identity-based discussion groups to enhance inclusion and provide mentoring for marginalized student groups, such as LGBTQ individuals, students of color, and survivors of sexual violence.

Responsibilities:

  • Student Success Initiatives: Individual support, crisis intervention, group facilitation, mentoring and advising individuals and groups.
  • Student Staff Supervision and Management: Regular weekly student meetings, managing staff meetings, collaborating on staff trainings and professional development.
  • Programming and Events: Workshop, training, group discussion, and event planning and implementation; committee and partnership work with campus departments; support for the Community and Culture Unit through dialogue and facilitation.
  • Department Management: Daily operations of the Women’s Center, assessment and evaluation, coordination of partnerships and outreach, annual reports, and support for fundraising efforts.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Oversight of weekly purchasing and inventory needs, budget planning and tracking, allocation of funds to support key initiatives (WGEC and Returning Adult Learners), coordination with procurement and fiscal offices.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Women/Gender Studies, Social Work, Human Services, or other service-related/people and society-focused fields. Two years of experience with education and advocacy related to gender/women's issues, LGBTQ issues. Two years of experience/training related to supporting students in crisis, specifically as it relates to interpersonal violence. One year of experience in supervisory and administrative roles. Prior experience with grant writing and grant administration. Prior experience with/exposure to a university women's center and/or college student development.

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to lift no more than 10-15 lbs at a time -- Certain events may necessitate lifting, stooping, or standing for long periods, but these are not required. Additionally, accommodations can be made if necessary.

Salary: $73,000 to $82,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
