The Assistant Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations partners with academic and administrative leadership across UEIS and the University to identify philanthropic priorities, cultivate meaningful relationships, and secure support that strengthens programs, expands opportunities for students and faculty, and advances Carnegie Mellon's strategic goals.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean, Advancement, UEIS, the Assistant Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, UEIS is responsible for the development of major gifts and mutually beneficial partnerships with corporations, foundations, and other institutional partners in support of Carnegie Mellon University Libraries, the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC), IDeATe, and Sustainability (UEIS). The position supports the strategic priorities of the UEIS portfolio, Carnegie Mellon University, and University Advancement.
Core responsibilities include:
- Organizing and managing the development of philanthropic support from corporations and foundations for UEIS.
- Developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies and programs to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate and foundation prospects for UEIS.
- Managing ongoing relationships and serves as a primary liaison with corporate and foundation representatives, faculty, academic and administrative leadership, and other key stakeholders across the UEIS portfolio.
- Developing, reviewing, and delivering competitive proposals to secure philanthropic support; collaborates with colleagues throughout University Advancement and across the university to advance institutional priorities.
- Managing a portfolio of 35 corporate and 30 foundation prospects and assuming responsibility for achieving annual fundraising and activity goals.
- Developing annual fundraising plans and strategies for an assigned corporate and foundation portfolio in support of the strategic priorities of the UEIS portfolio.
- Identifying, analyzing, and communicating information relevant to developing successful relationships with corporate and foundation prospects.
- Preparing and presenting reports and briefings for university leadership and external audiences.
- Coordinating campus visits, meetings, and engagement opportunities for corporate representatives, foundation program officers, faculty, and university leadership.
- Maintaining accurate and timely records of prospect activity and institutional engagement within the university's constituent relationship management system.
- Maintaining current knowledge of programs, faculty, research, student initiatives, and strategic priorities across Carnegie Mellon University Libraries, the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC), IDeATe, and Sustainability (UEIS).
- Collaborating with colleagues throughout University Advancement to coordinate institutional strategies and maximize philanthropic support.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
You should demonstrate:
- The ability to relate well to and understand the needs and interests of corporations, foundations, and institutional partners in order to develop meaningful relationships between those organizations and Carnegie Mellon University.
- The ability to initiate, implement, analyze, monitor, and evaluate strategic plans for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate and foundation prospects.
- Interest in interdisciplinary education, research, innovation, sustainability, libraries, and creative technologies, with a commitment to advancing Carnegie Mellon University's funding priorities through the development of strong working relationships with faculty, academic and administrative leadership, trustees, volunteers, University Advancement colleagues, and external partners.
- The ability to develop and implement short- and long-term corporate and foundation fundraising strategies that support the mission of Carnegie Mellon University, the strategic priorities of the UEIS portfolio, and University Advancement.
- Must be able to work under the pressure of fundraising goals.
- The ability to maintain composure when dealing with difficult situations and/or individuals.
- The ability to meet deadlines and manage frequent interruptions.
- The ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records.
- The ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- The ability to work well with others and as part of a collaborative team.
- The ability to work with sensitive information, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment and discretion.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical, organizational, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Working Conditions:
- May be required to travel throughout the region, to other areas of the country, and internationally. Expected Travel: 4-6 trips per year
- Required to work in an office setting.
- Evening and weekend work will occasionally be required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Three to five years of experience in fundraising, foundation relations, corporate relations, sales, business development, or market development, preferably within a higher education fundraising environment.
- Valid state driver's license. Must complete a driver's license verification on an annual basis and complete the National Safety Council's Defensive Driving training program once every three years.
