Assistant Director of Admissions
Position Summary
This position provides leadership for recruitment, admissions operations, and enrollment initiatives designed to meet institutional enrollment goals. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing and implementing strategic recruitment plans, supervising assigned staff and student employees, managing specialized recruitment populations, leveraging CRM technology and data analytics, and ensuring a high-quality, student-centered admissions experience.
The Assistant Director collaborates with academic departments, student services, marketing, financial aid, workforce development, and external partners to support recruitment, enrollment, and student success initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Recruitment and Enrollment Management
- Develop and implement strategic recruitment initiatives to achieve enrollment goals for first-time, transfer, adult, dual admission, and other targeted student populations.
- Coordinate recruitment efforts for specialized populations including dual admissions, homeschooled students, adult learners, military-affiliated students, transfer students, and other emerging enrollment initiatives.
- Manage an assigned recruitment territory and develop relationships with high schools, community organizations, workforce agencies, employers, and community partners.
- Represent the College at recruitment events, college fairs, high school visits, community events, information sessions, and open houses, including evening and weekend activities.
- Coordinate campus visits, admissions presentations, and yield activities that support prospective student enrollment.
- Develop and execute communication plans that move prospective students efficiently through the enrollment funnel.
Admissions Operations
- Assist in the daily management of Admissions Office operations.
- Monitor application processing to ensure timely review and communication with prospective students.
- Ensure exceptional customer service throughout the admissions process.
- Collaborate with academic departments regarding selective admissions programs and enrollment requirements.
- Assist with admissions policy development and continuous process improvement.
- Maintain compliance with SUNY, New York State, and institutional admissions policies.
CRM, Technology, and Data Management
- Utilize the College's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to manage recruitment activities, communication campaigns, and prospective student engagement.
- Analyze enrollment data and recruitment metrics to evaluate effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop regular reports and dashboards tracking inquiries, applications, admits, deposits, enrollment, and yield.
- Collaborate with Information Technology and Institutional Effectiveness to improve admissions technology and data integrity.
- Support implementation of new enrollment technologies and process improvements.
Event Planning and Outreach
Coordinate and assist with the planning and execution of major enrollment events including Open House, Accepted Student Days, Instant Admit Events, Information Sessions, College Fairs, Guidance Counselor Programs, Community Recruitment Events, Campus Tours, Virtual Recruitment Programs.
Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise assigned admissions counselors, support staff, student ambassadors, and student workers.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, scheduling, and performance evaluation of admissions staff.
- Foster a collaborative, student-centered, and high-performing team environment.
Student Success Initiatives
Support institutional initiatives that promote student access, persistence, and completion, including SUNY ASAP, SUNY Reconnect, Dual Enrollment/Early College, Adult Learner Recruitment, Transfer Pathways.
Other Responsibilities
- Serve on institutional committees and task forces.
- Maintain knowledge of current enrollment management trends, technologies, and best practices.
- Participate in professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in admissions, enrollment management, recruitment, or student affairs.
- Demonstrated experience using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system (e.g., Slate or similar).
- Experience analyzing enrollment data and preparing reports.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel.
