General Summary

The Assistant Director will support the Director in the overall management and coordination of the program under the supervision of the Dean. This includes assisting with daily operations, implementing program initiatives, monitoring performance outcomes, supporting faculty and staff, and ensuring alignment with institutional goals, policies, and accreditation standards.

Specific Position Duties

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field.
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the college, including CollegeNOW® Academy (Dual Credit) classes.
  • Utilize appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
  • Provide students with written expectations (e.g., syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations).
  • Administer assessments appropriate to course content, including a comprehensive final exam measuring overall mastery of course objectives.
  • Affirm the worth and dignity of all persons and support the right of all students to learn through effective instructional practices.
  • Maintain an appropriate learning and assessment environment (traditional, online, or distance) that encourages the free exchange of ideas while upholding academic honesty and objectivity.
  • Prepare adequately for class and arrive promptly to class meetings, labs, and other scheduled instructional activities.
  • Deliver instructional material in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Address student concerns (e.g., comments, questions, and feedback) in class, during office hours, through timely electronic communication, and by other appropriate means.
  • Perform routine procedures necessary for the successful day-to-day operation of the department as delegated by the department chair.
  • Submit required reports and schedules to the department chair in a timely manner.
  • Maintain effective relationships with colleagues across the college and within the community.
  • Provide academic advising to students regarding degree plans and applications to support timely completion.
  • Assist with recruiting, marketing, and outreach efforts for departmental programs.
  • Actively participate in college functions, events, and community service activities.
  • Assist the Program Director with schedule development for the discipline.
  • Assist the Program Director in ensuring compliance with instructional practices.
  • Assist the Program Director in managing budgets and ordering supplies.
  • Assist the Program Director in scheduling department meetings and maintaining minutes for submission to the Dean.
  • Assist the Program Director in conducting classroom observations for returning faculty.
  • Support faculty in Core Program Outcome documentation and assessment processes.
  • Assist the Program Director with hiring adjunct faculty and overseeing adjunct support plans.
  • Provide initial review/signature for forms (e.g., leave requests, incompletes, student schedule changes).
  • Assist the Program Director in overseeing curriculum development.
  • Attend meetings as scheduled.
  • Assist the Program Director in addressing student complaints.
  • Attend completion ceremonies, including college graduation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • ASE Certifications and relevant technical training, certification, or experience in the discipline.
  • OR
  • Associate Degree and relevant technical training, certification, or experience in the discipline and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline.
  • Must obtain ASE certification within six (6) months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate degree in automotive technology or related field.
  • At least one year of teaching experience.
