Assistant Director of Centre Global, Study Abroad & Away
The Assistant Director manages the administration of the college’s domestic and international programs and assists the Director in all related tasks. The position coordinates a portfolio of programs, maintaining partnerships, supporting faculty-led courses, and leading on student advising. Outreach, orientation planning, and collaboration with campus and international stakeholders are essential aspects of the position. Assistant Director reports to the Director of Centre Global, requires after-hours availability and willingness to travel as needed. The salary range for this role is $55,000-60,000 annually.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides student- and faculty-centered support throughout the proposal, recruitment, pre-departure, off-campus, and re-entry processes;
- Advises selected students on course options; assists with abroad course registration; liaises between students, appropriate Centre faculty and programs, and Registrar for course fulfillments;
- Advises students and faculty on passport acquisition, health/safety abroad, and visas;
- Provides support and information to parents/guardians of students studying abroad;
- Serves as point of contact for finance office and financial aid office regarding payments, costs, etc.;
- Works with numerous offices on campus to coordinate finances, housing, meal plans, scholarships, and more for students studying away/abroad;
- Advises students on internal and external scholarships and assist with required application material; including the Gilman International Scholarship;
- Assists the Director in recruiting students for abroad programs, including creating all recruitment materials, updating website, maintaining and processing online application system;
- Assists Director in recruitment of faculty interest and participation in faculty-led programs;
- Acts as a point of contact for students off campus (e.g., emergencies, resources);
- Works with the Director to respond to and help resolve escalated overseas problems and emergencies;
- Schedules, creates agendas for, and leads pre-departure meetings;
- Assists the Director in managing travel medicine clinics and safety meetings for all participants;
- Maintains faculty and student abroad resources, pre-departure guides, online study abroad portals, forms, deadlines, rosters, participant databases, etc.;
- Collects and helps analyze study abroad assessments;
- Assists Director in monitoring and informing students, parents, and campus constituents about State Department travel alerts and warnings;
- Assists Director in completing administrative, third-party assessments and reports, including the annual IIE Open Doors Survey;
- Maintains regular contact with Centre’s domestic and international partners;
- Orientation leader and primary coordinator for the CSR consortia program in NYC;
- Ensures program adherence to FERPA, HIPPA, Title IX, and other federal/international regulations;
- Serves as primary administrator for application/enrollment platforms like Via Global and Airtable;
- Ex officio member of the Off-Campus Programs Committee (OCPC) and ex officio member of the Honors and Prizes Committee. Participant on other college council committees as designated;
- Demonstrates an appreciation for and sensitivity to an inclusive academic community, fostering a welcoming environment for students, faculty, and staff from all social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Demonstrated experience working in higher education and/or with international programs/travel services
- Intercultural competence and sensitivity
Knowledge and Skills:
Self-motivated, detailed, solution-oriented and flexible, with the ability to work independently and closely with a diverse group of colleagues in occasional high-pace, high-stress environments. Willingness to work well with numerous constituencies at Centre College and abroad, including administrators, staff, faculty students and parents. Ability to work some evenings and weekends and travel as needed.
Extensive written and oral communication skills. Ability to use multiple digital content management platforms, including Office 365, Workday, Airtable, Via Global, and Jotform. Must be able to organize and manage multiple assignments.
Foreign language ability (preferred)
Overseas living and/or study abroad experience (preferred)
Physical Requirements:
Limited pushing, pulling, lifting. Lifting would not exceed 20 lbs. Mobility on campus and ability to travel abroad necessary.
