Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Career Services, the Assistant Director for Employer Engagement and Outcomes leads the college's employer engagement and outreach strategy. This includes conducting proactive outreach to new employers across industries through a maintained schedule of site visits, pitch meetings, and follow-up on new leads, and expanding and nurturing relationships with existing partners by consulting on positioning, recommending ways to enhance visibility, and capturing and reporting on market and recruiting trends and hiring data. The role serves as the primary point of contact for key employer partners, ensuring timely communication, benefit delivery, and positive recruitment outcomes, and maintains an employer development pipeline with relationship progress and outcomes tracked in Handshake. The Assistant Director represents Career Services at employer sites, recruitment events, and industry conferences, and standardizes processes across the Employer Engagement unit so that outreach, communications, and programming operate consistently.
The Assistant Director also acts as a Career Services liaison to employer-facing stakeholders across the college, including academic Deans, faculty, department chairs, alumni relations, workforce and community partners, and student organizations, working to uncover new employer partnership opportunities and connect recruiters to relevant talent pipelines.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Employer Engagement & Outreach Strategy
- Lead the college's employer outreach strategy, cultivating new employer relationships through site visits, pitch meetings, and lead follow-up
- Serve as primary point of contact for key employer partners, ensuring timely communication, benefit delivery, and positive recruitment outcomes
- Maintain an employer development pipeline and track relationship progress and outcomes in Handshake
- Represent Career Services at employer sites, recruitment events, and industry conferences
- Act as liaison to employer-facing stakeholders across the college, including Deans, faculty, alumni relations, workforce partners, and student organizations
- Standardize outreach, communication, and programming processes across the Employer Engagement unit
Employer Development & Sponsorships
- Execute an annual employer partnership strategy through employer sponsorship and targeted engagement initiatives
- Develop and manage a corporate partner program, including partnership tiers, benefit fulfillment, and agreement renewals
- Oversee sponsorship decks, pitch materials, and employer-facing collateral
- Set sponsorship and partnership targets with the Director of Career Services, aligning goals with institutional priorities
- Manage partnership timelines and coordinate internal communication on deliverables such as event visibility, marketing exposure, and logistics
Job Fairs, Events & Programming
- Direct strategy, planning, and execution for job fairs, recruitment events, and the annual employer engagement calendar
- Lead communications and project management for cross-functional events with campus partners
- Develop job and internship opportunities by connecting employer needs to student talent and advising employers on effective community college recruitment
Career Outcomes & Assessment
- Co-manage First Destination Survey collection, analysis, and reporting with the Director of Career Services
- Use FDS results, Handshake data, and labor market research to shape outreach strategy and advise employers
- Provide regular reports to leadership on progress, engagement metrics, and growth opportunities
- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and hiring projections to match opportunities to SLCC talent
Apprenticeship Liaison
- Serve as the Career Services liaison for apprenticeship programs, aligning opportunities with employer engagement strategy
- Support new apprenticeship relationships and connect employers to relevant academic programs
- Ensure apprenticeship pathways are visible in career events and programming
Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise the Employer Engagement Team: set priorities, manage performance, and develop staff
- Contribute to office-wide planning as a member of the Career Services Leadership Team
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of higher education and career services, including employer relations.
- Knowledge of employer recruitment needs and strategies.
- Knowledge of assessment practices and platforms such as Qualtrics, Handshake, EAB, and Salesforce.
- Experience tracking employment outcomes longitudinally.
- Experience tracking employer engagement, event participation, and employment outcomes, and maintaining accurate records over time.
- Experience planning and executing events and programs, including job fairs and employer engagement activities.
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the department and College, including employers and community partners.
- Ability to create a strategic plan for employer engagement and execute it.
- Ability to supervise, lead, and hold team members accountable.
- Ability to manage a budget.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, higher education, or a related field
- Two (2) to five (5) years of experience in career services, employer relations, development, sales, or a related field
- Demonstrated strength in data and assessment, staff supervision, employer relations, and job development
- Proven track record of building partnerships or generating revenue through sponsorships or business development
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills; experience preparing professional presentations and materials
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and travel for employer visits and outreach
