Assistant Director of Financial Aid
Description
Under supervision of the Financial Aid Director, the Assistant Director of Financial Aid assists with the administrative duties of the Financial Aid Office to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

Office Administration:
- Establish appointments, handle telephone calls, and execute correspondence and memoranda.
- Prepare and maintain student files.
- Collect documentation for verification purposes.
- Complete informational requests for outside agencies (Social Services, WIOA, etc.)
- Receive and distribute all mail, faxes, and requests for print shop materials.
- Maintain an office inventory.
- Maintain and update office letters and documents in Colleague.
- Prepare and package mailings.
- Responsible for cross-training fellow Financial Aid staff members.
- Leads the effort in managing the daily pipeline of students requesting financial aid.
- Analyzes front end student service issues and resolves.
- Assists in the packaging of financial aid when needed.
- Explores and investigates new technology for the department to leverage and enhance services offered by the Department.
- Assesses volume to help prioritize the needs of students requesting aid against the resources and requirements of the College.
Counseling:
- Receives, directs, and assists visitors and/or students.
- Assist applicants in completion of financial aid applications and instruct them on their responsibility for completion of the application.
- Inform students and families about federal, state, and institutional programs and funds available to assist community college students, included but not limited to Pell Grant, College Work-Study, NC Scholarship, and to actively encourage students to utilize the federal program funds.
Program Administration:
- Advise students, parents, and internal clientele on private loan eligibility, loan types, loan application requirements and processing.
- Verify student private loan eligibility and student enrollment status.
- Prepare student private loan awards in Colleague Software and communicate award information to eligible students.
- Manage posting of aid to student accounts in Colleague.
- Manage the awarding and disbursing of the NC Child Care Grant program.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, if requested for financial functions.
- Assist, as needed, in the counseling of students and awarding of all financial aid programs.
- Assist with collection and preparation of financial aid appeal data required by the Financial Aid Committee.
- Gathers and compiles data pertaining to federal and state reporting requirements.
Support of Mission/Related Responsibilities:
- Assist with various college functions (CFIs FAFSA Day, Fall and Spring New Student Orientation, Graduation, ACA class presentations, etc.). Serves on college committees as assigned.
- Assist other areas of the Division of Academic and Student Success in outreach and recruiting functions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Professional Development:
- Maintain membership in NCASFAA (North Carolina Association of Financial Aid Administrators).
- Attend on and off campus training opportunities.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate in Applied Science degree in a business, education or mathematics related field.
- Experience in financial aid in a college environment is desired. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suites, and Google applications.
- Ability to communicate with students verbally and in written form.
- Ability to be discrete, explanatory, thorough, and rational when handling difficult and confidential student data.
