Assistant Director of Leadership Annual Giving
Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, Parent & Family Giving, the Assistant Director is an integral member of the Parents Program team, primarily responsible for several key areas of development activity including prospect management and fundraising, stewardship, and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director. The Assistant Director will manage a portfolio of non-alumni (pure) parent and family prospects and donors with emphasis on individuals with the ability to give $10,000+. The Assistant Director works closely with the Executive Director and peers in the Parent & Family Giving office to implement priorities and develop fundraising strategies, communications, and events. The Assistant Director cultivates donors and volunteers for annual and major gifts, and leadership roles on the Penn Parents Council.
Job Responsibilities
Fundraising and Prospect Management
- Build and manage a portfolio of non-alumni (pure) parent/family donors and prospects with a focus on those with the capacity of making $10,000+ commitments.
- Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 150 prospective donors.
- Meet annual fundraising goals and contribute to overall goals for the Parent & Family Program.
- Assist Executive Director in the recruitment and management of the Penn Parents Council.
- Assist in research and strategic analysis of prospect data to help prioritize individual parent and family donor engagement with Executive Director.
- Collaborate with fundraising and alumni relations colleagues across Penn to devise donor strategies and strategic partnerships.
- Develop an understanding of Penn's strategic priorities that might appeal to parents.
Stewardship and Donor Engagement
- Identify and support ways to cultivate key segments of parent and family donor populations and develop targeted outreach and stewardship, small group or regional events, and engagement opportunities with other volunteer groups.
- Collaborate on and implement cultivation and stewardship events and activities, as needed with the Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) Communications Team, The Penn Fund, and other DAR offices, throughout the year.
- Support university events and programs such as Welcome Receptions, New Parent and Family Orientation, Homecoming, and other events, with priority given to identifying and cultivating prospective non-alumni family donors.
- Assist with planning events for parent and family prospects.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 2 to 3 years of successful experience in development, preferably in higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Experience with direct solicitation of four, five and six figure gifts from individuals and/or family foundations.
- Must have ability to manage multiple projects in a goal- and deadline-oriented environment, and to work independently and as a strong team player.
- Should be able to analyze and concisely articulate issues and to work with a diverse group of constituents.
- Strong strategic and conceptual abilities necessary to succeed within complex and goal-oriented environment.
- Ability to learn the needs and priorities of Penn and translate those into written proposals is required to successfully carry out this job.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Travel, evening/weekend work and valid driver's license required.
