ResponsibilitiesThe Assistant Director for TRIO SSS Retention and Academic Support plays a key leadership role in the coordination and implementation of academic support initiatives aimed at increasing the retention, academic success, and graduation rates of program participants in the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program. This role is focused on providing individualized academic guidance, managing tutorial services, and working collaboratively across departments to advocate for and support first-generation, low-income, and/or students with documented disabilities.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Counseling and Guidance, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in advising and supporting students in higher education, particularly those who are first-generation, low-income, and/or have disabilities.
- Ability to develop rapport with students and advocate on their behalf within an institutional setting.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with higher education data systems (e.g., EAB Navigate), Microsoft Office Suite, and data management tools.
- Experience in managing or supervising tutorial or academic support services.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of student development theory and academic success strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Retention & Academic Support
- Manage a caseload of SSS participants from intake through post-graduation by providing individualized academic guidance and holistic support.
- Conduct one-on-one academic coaching sessions and develop individualized action plans to promote student success.
- Monitor and document academic progress using grades, faculty feedback, and EAB Navigate.
- Refer students to appropriate institutional and community resources based on academic and personal needs.
Program Coordination & Academic Services
- Lead the coordination of tutorial and academic skill development services for SSS students.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate peer tutors and supplemental instructors in alignment with CRLA (College Reading & Learning Association) certification standards.
- Oversee the operations of the Tutorial Lab and ensure quality and accessibility of academic services offered.
Collaboration & Institutional Engagement
- Partner with campus offices including Academic Advising, Admissions, Registration, Disability Services, and the Center for Student Success and Academic Excellence to coordinate student support.
- Collaborate with faculty, support staff, and college-wide departments to identify and address the academic needs of program participants.
- Represent the SSS Program in campus-wide student success initiatives, committees, and partnerships.
Data Collection & Reporting
- Assist the Project Director in collecting and analyzing data related to student outcomes, program impact, and federal reporting requirements.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with institutional and federal guidelines.
Other Duties
- Contribute to program development, strategic planning, and evaluation efforts to meet grant objectives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the SSS Program and the institution.
Qualifications- Experience with TRIO or similar federally funded educational opportunity programs.
- Familiarity with CRLA certification or similar tutor training standards.
- Background in student persistence, retention research, or program evaluation.
