The Writing Center provides advanced writing support to MA and PhD students enrolled at the GC. It offers one-on-one consultations, workshops and other group programming, and a growing range of asynchronous resources on its website. In an effort to advance its service-oriented mission of delivering the best graduate writing support, The Writing Center maintains an active research agenda in the fields of Graduate Writing Center Administration and Graduate Writing Studies. Each year, all staff members participate in a research project that results in a co-authored publication.

The Writing Center seeks to hire an Assistant Director. The Assistant Director reports to the Center’s Director. This position holds responsibilities that span four general areas: staff development and supervision, office administration, student support, and research.

This is a hybrid role, and the incumbent will work on site and remotely. All full-time and part-time CUNY staff are expected to work in-person at their campus office 80% of their work time.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Assists with staff training and mentorship of graduate fellows
• Assists in the direction and enactment of digital resource projects
• Tracks usage data and assists in the preparation of reports
• Assists with event planning, organizing, and promotion
• Manages communications, social media, and marketing
• Edits a monthly newsletter
• Curates content for the website
• Designs and implements workshops
• Holds graduate writing consultations
• Serves as project manager of the annual, all-staff research project
• Co-investigates research projects and co-authors articles
• Performs other duties as assigned

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

• Administers the activities of a learning resource or support center.
• Supports the design and delivery of academic resources such as tutoring, remedial and other student programs and services, delivered in a variety of modes, including on-line
• Produces and administers training programs, lectures, workshops, seminars and special events
• Collaborates with various College offices to improve student and faculty services; implements new services and assures existing services are effectively provided.
• Serves as resource expert for students and faculty regarding center policies and procedures, and if needed, technology issues related to their learning experience
• May assist and/or supervise office operations and/or department budget
• Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A doctoral degree
• Five years of experience in a writing center and/or writing program
• Previous experience with writing instruction, writing studies, writing center administration, developmental editing for academics, L2 writing support, Writing Across the Curriculum, Writing in the Disciplines, and/or science writing
• Experience with graduate-level student support
• Administrative experience
