Assistant Director of Trades
The Assistant Director is responsible for all supervision and daily operations aspects of repair and maintenance of the College property as it relates to the skilled trades.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day supervision and support for HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Painting, and Maintenance shops.
- Schedule and assign employees to various maintenance, repair, and renovation projects.
- Ensure that the campus has proper staffing coverage from the skilled trades shops and approve time off requests.
- Maintain accurate work records through the current work order program.
- Coordinate maintenance and renovation activities, working with subordinates.
- Coordinate, with other units of the Department, the creation of an efficient delivery of services.
- Coordinate carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other mechanical, maintenance, or construction work performed by employees or contractors.
- Inspect buildings, equipment, and campus grounds for hazards and violations of safety codes and regulations.
- Maintain and update an inventory of building maintenance and grounds supplies as needed.
- Work as a liaison to the Town of Easton as needed.
- Available for after-hours emergency calls.
- Provide for effective emergency services.
- Maintain necessary records.
- Working with the Director to develop and implement effective preventative maintenance programs.
- Ensure compliance with all building and safety codes.
- Assist other Directors as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise union Electricians, HVAC Mechanics, Plumbers, Maintenance Technicians, Painters, and Carpenters. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the college’s policies, union contract, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees, and planning, assigning, and directing work. Appraise performance and discipline employees when needed. Address complaints and resolve problems.
Education and/or Experience
Required Education and/or Experience:
- Associate’s degree from a two or four-year college or university, or 10 years of related experience.
- Massachusetts Construction Supervisor’s License – unrestricted.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
- At least 3 years of recent professional experience in a higher education work environment.
- Must know about building maintenance skills such as grounds maintenance, minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, light construction, and painting.
- Possess an above-average degree of competency and “hands-on” experience in the area of building maintenance, repair, assembly, and troubleshooting.
