JOB DESCRIPTION:
DIVISION: Enrollment Management
DEPARTMENT: Office of Undergraduate Admission
JOB SUMMARY:
Assists in the recruitment of first-time freshman and transfer students; manages recruitment in specified territory; responsible for evaluation of approximately 1200 applications annually.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred or equivalent related experience.
EXPERIENCE: 3-4 years of progressive admission experience or comparable experience in education; experience in planning and implementing a comprehensive recruitment program; experience at a small, private, highly selective university, either professionally or as a student, is highly desirable; valid driver’s license required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL NEEDED:
UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Ability to work frequent evenings and weekends during peak travel and reading periods.
REPORTS TO: Director of Undergraduate Admission
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in recruitment of first-time freshman and transfer students for admission to Fairfield University. This includes:
- developing a travel strategy and schedule for assigned territory
- identifying and cultivating qualified inquiries and applicants in the assigned territory
- conducting regular data-based evaluations of the results of the travel schedule
- maintaining relationships with college counselors, community-based organizations, and school officials
- recruiting and engaging volunteers in assigned territory
- Reviews and evaluates freshman applications for admission. May also serve as second reader of applications.
- Fulfills all daily responsibilities, including conducting interviews, leading group information sessions, and serving as “counselor for the day.”
- Participates in all admission office events, including but not limited to, Fairfield in Focus, Magis Scholars’ Program, and division-specific visit programs
- Specific additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to developing and planning specific events. Assignments may include:
- coordinating travel efforts for entire staff. Specific responsibilities include:
- using demographic research to direct travel planning
- assisting staff with individual travel planning, assuring adequate coverage for necessary events and changing activities when appropriate
- developing new and innovative travel activities
- developing new admission markets for Fairfield
- synchronizing guidance counselor outreach
- coordinating selection, training and organization of student tour guides and ambassadors, student interviewers, and student interns
- monitoring technology in the office, including updating website when necessary
- coordinating processing and evaluation of recruited athletes
- organizing and managing electronic “chats” for prospective students
- responding to requests for gifts for charitable activities
- coordinating group visits to campus
- coordinating travel efforts for entire staff. Specific responsibilities include:
- Participates in the professional development of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This involves:
- participating in professional development opportunities and promoting professional development opportunities for other staff members
- actively participating in the campus community to engage broad cooperation and support for Admission efforts
- attending departmental staff meetings as requested
- promoting an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community and consistent with the department’s mission
- remaining knowledgeable in all aspects of Fairfield University – its history, campus, programs, enrollment, and in the broad field of admission
- Promotes safe and secure working conditions. This involves:
- promoting the proper utilization of equipment and materials,
- notifying supervisor immediately of any unsafe working conditions.
- Performs other related duties as directed or dictated by responsibilities.
