Assistant Director, Scholarship Development and Administration
The Assistant Director Scholarship Development and Administration supports the Office Scholarship Development and Administration within the Engagement and Outreach team. This position supports fundraising efforts related to student success through philanthropic support. This position reports directly to the Associate Director Scholarship Development and Administration. The Assistant Director plays a key role in managing scholarship programs, fundraising, donor relations, and student support.
What you'll do
- Collaborative style, combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based environment
- Participates in the administration of institutional, private, and endowed scholarships
- Develops and implements policies to ensure fair and transparent scholarship awarding
- Maintain scholarship databases and ensure compliance with donor agreements
- Collaborates with advancement/development teams to identify and cultivate donor relationships
- Assists with written proposals, reports, and stewardship communications for scholarship donors
- Coordinates donor recognition events, meetings, and engagement opportunities
- Develops and implements outreach initiatives to increase scholarship applications
- Prepares reports for internal stakeholders and external funders
- Works closely with admissions, financial aid, and academic departments to maximize scholarship effectiveness
- Serves as a program liaison for student scholars through meetings, advising sessions, and events
- Participates in committees and working groups related to scholarships and student success
- Supports the Associate Director for Scholarship Development and Administration in executing functions within the scope of departmental needs
- Other duties as assigned
What you'll need
- Collaborative style, combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based environment
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospect information
- Strong and collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of development/fundraising, preferably in higher education
- Able to secure personal appointments and qualify new prospects
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Problem solver who can take initiative and set priorities while being flexible
- Team-oriented strategist able to effectively manage complex situations involving numerous and sometimes competing constituencies
- Ability to represent the institution well
- An advocate's belief in the vision of ASU as the New American University
- Ability to prepare complex and detailed proposals and related materials
- Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties
- Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in donor/prospect computer data base systems
- Adept at navigating complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans
- Demonstrable experience in stewardship plans
- Leadership and mentoring skills, with strong people skills to foster collaboration and effective communication within cross-functional teams
Relevant qualifications
Bachelor's degree; 3-5 years of successful experience within academic/student affairs and/or fundraising related experience in a higher education institution; or any equivalent combination of experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
