Assistant Director – Student Engagement

The Position

Reporting to the Associate Director of Orientation & Campus Activities, the Assistant Director plays an integral role within the Division of Student Affairs, addressing the needs of the University to enhance the student experience by overseeing the planning and implementation of campus programming along with assisting the Associate Director with the logistics and operations of First-Year and Transfer Orientation programs. The Assistant Director supervises 2 part-time staff, advises a portfolio of student organizations, and will represent the office on various university wide committees.

The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with strong attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

Position Duties

  • Coordinate and develop campus-wide programming to connect students with peers, resources and departments/special guests (e.g. Weeks of Welcome, Spirit Week, wellness programming, cultural programming, commuter programming, Explore NYC, etc.) to ensure that such efforts promote student connectedness and sense of belonging to campus community and enhance student life.
  • Coordinate risk management of university wide programming both on and off-campus and student organization related programs.
  • Support opportunities for students to work with members of the community on service projects.
  • Manage print and digital marketing and communication efforts targeted to students, including social media outreach and content management to advertise monthly calendar of programming; seek opportunities or initiatives that enhance visibility of and/or engagement with these platforms.
  • Lead recruitment, selection, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of 2 part-time staff assisting with the logistics and operations of large scale programming and commuter student support and events.
  • Co-Lead recruitment, selection, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of Orientation Leaders, Orientation Office Assistants, and Orientation Interns.
  • Co-Lead recruitment, selection, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff positions such as Spirit Ambassadors and Commuter Office Assistants (COA).
  • Co-Lead the coordination of Student Orientation Programs, including program design, coordinating with relevant university departments, program implementation and program assessment.
  • Serve as a member of the Student Affairs Communications committee with a particular focus on supporting regular communications with Incoming Students, Parents, and Families for New Student Orientation experience.
  • Serve as Student Engagement Advisor to a select portfolio of student clubs and organizations.
  • Lead efforts to build and develop network of vendors to provide services for campus activities events.
  • Maintain involvement in university-wide outreach initiatives that offer departmental visibility to students including Orientation, Move-In Weekend events, Weeks of Welcome (WOW), Spirit Week, Social Justice Week, among others.
  • Collaborate with university partners in the development and implementation of new initiatives, special programs and projects that create and sustain a sense of community and belonging to the Pace student population, including but not limited to Counseling Center, Residential Life, Center for Community Action & Research, the Division of Opportunity & Institutional Excellence, LGBTQA+ Center and the Office of the Dean for Students.
  • Oversee the budget for campus programming including but not limited to monitoring expenditures, managing purchase requisitions, and tracking account balances.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Student Engagement with the Orientation budget including but not limited to monitoring expenditures, managing purchase requisitions, and tracking account balances.
  • Ensure ongoing financial analysis and accountability; submit periodic reports to Associate Director.
  • Support the Center for Student Engagement on department-wide initiatives.
  • Assist with the development of departmental-level and unit-level policies and procedures and recommend changes for continuous improvement.
  • Support Student Engagement Team on programs, initiatives, goal setting, and assessment to report meaningful metrics to measure outcomes and outputs; provide on-site leadership and support to related events; attend and participate in team meetings.
  • Serve on relevant departmental, divisional and University-wide committees.
  • Assist with the production of department and divisional mid-year/annual reports and strategic priorities for orientation, campus activities, and commuter services.
  • Develop and disseminate program assessment efforts and learning outcome development; evaluate data, establish benchmarks and coordinate changes in accordance with findings.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) required. Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Educational Leadership, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field preferred.
  • One year of part-time or full-time experience in the planning and execution of student events and/or programs, including but not limited to: Orientation Programming, Student Engagement and Activities, and Commuter Student Programming.
  • One year experience in direct student and/or student organization advising and administration. Graduate student experience will be considered.
  • Experience with marketing and communications, including social media content management experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with program assessment and data management.
  • Experience with student leadership development and/or training preferred.
  • Knowledge implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives preferred.
  • Experience with student staff supervision preferred.
