- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- At least four years of experience in academic advising, student success, developmental education, higher education administration, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Experience administering Texas Success Initiative programs, developmental education, co-requisite education, or college-readiness initiatives.
- Experience advising or supporting students who are not college ready or who are enrolled in developmental education coursework.
- Experience interpreting and applying TSI-related state regulations, institutional policy, and academic procedures.
- Experience with student information systems, data reporting, student-record review, and academic-status processes.
- Experience developing and implementing student communications, orientation processes, outreach campaigns, or retention initiatives.
- Experience conducting program assessment and analyzing developmental education, persistence, retention, or graduation outcomes.
- Experience collaborating with academic advising units, faculty, academic departments, and student-support services.
- Experience supervising, training, or coordinating the work of professional staff.

Position Description
The Assistant Director of Texas Success Initiative (TSI) supports the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of Texas State University’s TSI efforts to promote student success. The position is responsible for supporting students who have not yet satisfied the State of Texas TSI Assessment requirements in mathematics, reading, and writing. The Assistant Director coordinates TSI program services, academic processes, student communications, limited academic advising, and student retention efforts. The position works collaboratively with students, academic advisors, faculty, staff, and campus partners to ensure students understand TSI requirements, enroll in appropriate developmental education or co-requisite coursework, and make timely progress toward degree completion. The Assistant Director administers compliance, technology, and academic processes necessary for effective TSI operations; provides guidance and expertise related to TSI and developmental education requirements; and serves as a liaison between the TSI Office and Texas State academic advising units.
Job Duties (Essential Functions)
- Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of TSI programs, processes, and student-success initiatives.
- Coordinate day-to-day TSI operations, including program services, academic processes, student communications, limited academic advising, and retention efforts.
- Provide guidance to students who have not yet satisfied TSI requirements, including information about TSI status, developmental education pathways, co-requisite coursework, available resources, and next steps toward degree progression.
- Maintain regular communication with students regarding TSI requirements, registration, support services, and academic progress.
- Liaise with TSI Academic Advisor(s) and Texas State academic advising units to support consistent and accurate communication, appropriate course enrollment, and coordinated student support.
- Plan and administer TSI-related New Student Orientation processes under the direction of the TSI Director to help ensure entering students meet or have a plan to meet TSI requirements.
- Coordinate the day-to-day processes associated with developmental education and co-requisite course registration.
- Enroll students in appropriate developmental education and co-requisite course pairings, in accordance with TSI requirements and institutional procedures.
- Monitor the accuracy of student records related to College Ready and Not College Ready status, including review of student profiles and related automated processes.
- Administer TSI-related academic processes and student-success programming for Texas State students.
- Plan, implement, assess, and report on student-success initiatives for students enrolled in developmental education coursework.
- Analyze developmental education course outcomes and student-progress data to identify opportunities to strengthen curriculum, academic processes, student support, and program services.
- Assist with the evaluation of student persistence, retention, and graduation outcomes for students served through TSI and developmental education programs.
- Conduct assessment activities and prepare reports to support continuous improvement of TSI services, programs, and processes.
- Provide training, consultation, advocacy, and subject-matter expertise related to TSI regulations, developmental education requirements, and student-support practices for academic advising units and other campus partners.
- Collaborate with faculty, academic departments, academic advising units, and student-support services to address barriers that may affect student success, persistence, and completion.
- Maintain and improve TSI website content to ensure information is accurate, current, accessible, and student-friendly.
- Assist with special projects assigned by the TSI Director, including service on the Developmental Education Advisory Committee and other institutional committees, task forces, or working groups.
- Represent the University and the TSI Office at local, regional, state, and national meetings or professional activities, as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
