Assistant Director, Thrive Hubs
The Office of Undergraduate Education seeks a passionate, committed professional to join one of the Thrive@Carolina Campus Hubs, comprised of teams dedicated to providing student-centered, holistic and seamlessly delivered support to students from acceptance through graduation. Reporting to a Hub Director, Assistant Directors assist with the overall management and delivery of services of a Hub unit, in addition to providing direct student support. During each academic year, Assistant Directors will also teach up to 4 sections of a 1-credit hour course, First-Year Thriving, and therefore will need to meet the minimum SACS Accreditation requirements for instruction. Hub staff are expected to bring positive energy and a collaborative mindset to their everyday work, partnering with campus staff, faculty and one another to eliminate barriers to student success and ensure all students thrive. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the Liberal Arts, a desire to engage employees and build teams, and demonstrated experience utilizing an intersectional framework to support students holistically through individual interactions and programming efforts.
This is a 12-month, full-time, permanent, EHRA Non-Faculty position which will require some evening hours and may have non-standard work hours.
Education and Experience:
- Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling or a related field.
- Strong interest in promoting innovative systems and building a culture of integrated, holistic support for students.
- Experience using an intersectional framework to create learning outcomes and develop educational programs.
- Successful supervisory/management experience or the ability to lead groups.
- High level of organizational skills. Ability to organize/coordinate work with attention to detail and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of careers and occupations. Familiarity with career and educational planning assessments.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals;
- Experience, or interest in, contributing to educational research and professional literatures.
- Involvement with NACADA, NACE, NASPA, ACPA, NODA or other professional organizations which support holistic student success.
- Familiarity with social media and other digital technology and their application in higher education settings.
Essential Skills:
- Four years of professional direct student support and programming experience.
- Appreciation and understanding of a liberal arts education.
- Deep familiarity with the intersectional framework and best practices required to achieve student success including academic, wellness, engagement and financial components.
- Experience or training in social justice, diversity and/or cultural competence with a strong interest in continued professional development in these areas.
- Ability to address complex issues and provide solutions, using excellent judgement while maintaining confidentiality.
- Ability to take initiative, and work independently and in a team environment with limited supervision.
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize work and needs of students in assigned caseload.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and experience teaching, training or facilitating. Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations to groups.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships and working collaboratively with staff and colleagues.
- Flexibility to evolve within a dynamic environment and ability to maintain composure, professionalism, and positive attitude during lengthy periods of high volume, intensive work.
- Ability to utilize and/or learn software applications, learning platforms, or technology-based delivery systems.
- Minimum SACS qualifications to be appointed as fixed-term faculty.
