Assistant Director- Yale Housing
Overview
Reporting to the Associate Director of Housing Services, the Assistant Director of Housing Services will develop and plan processes and systems to support on-campus housing. They will assist the Associate Director of Housing Services and work closely with the Associate Director of Housing Operations in supporting successful delivery of housing services including systems and workflow for assignments and room selection; move-in and move-out processes; housing resources; summer housing operations, including student housing and conference housing.
- Directs the department’s successful deployment of services related to the academic year housing cycle, summer program housing, housing resources, and more.
- Responsible for the maintenance and continued development of department SOPs related to undergraduate housing, graduate housing, summer program housing, housing logistics, and more.
- Works with Yale College Dean's Office to facilitate undergraduate housing process including term time move in and move out, room draw, reporting, room changes, and housing policies.
- Collaborate with the Graduate & Professional Schools calendar and policies for graduate dorms and apartments.
- Enforce housing policies and license agreements.
- Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with Yale departments (i.e. Yale College, Office of Facilities, Hospitality, Access Control, YURO, YC&E, GSAS, Med School, Div School, Law School).
- Directly and indirectly supervise a team of FTE and casual staff.
- Collaborate with Associate Director and campus partners to determine room rates.
- Work with the Associate Director of Housing Services and Yale Housing leadership team to develop new business models and to create measures to enhance the department’s revenue potential.
- Conduct planning meetings and serve as representative for Yale Housing in meetings with campus partners.
- Establish departmental workflows, housing timelines, and lead staff in the expectations of procedures.
- Contribute to short- and long-term organizational planning and strategy.
- Respond to and mediate roommate and neighbor disputes in collaboration with the Res Life Coordinator and Community Fellows.
Oversees the advancement and growth of the program. Gives direction and leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Assumes primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and support of the program. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluation. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission, and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. Develops and manages the program’s operating budget. Develops the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling, and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs. Investigates, identifies, implements, and oversees the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications, identifying outreach potential, and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. Contributes to the development and assists in the management of content on the program’s website and monitors all changes and additions to the editorial content. May perform other duties as assigned.

Principal Responsibilities
- Manages and leads research on various federal rules and regulations as well as University policies and procedures to resolve problems and determine the best course of action for the functional area.
- Recommends course of action to higher authority for the handling and disposition of problems related to the functional area.
- Counsels faculty, students and staff on issues related to administrative operations of the University function and areas of concern for the function.
- Manages statistical and analytical information regarding office activities and areas of operational and administrative concern for the function.
- Leads in long-range planning for the office activities of a specific functional area.
- Interprets and administers various University and federal policies and regulations.
- Disseminates accurate and up-to-date information regarding areas of concern.
- Formulates and establishes policies regarding area’s function.
- Manages a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
