Duties and Responsibilities
N.C. Cooperative Extension in Columbus County is seeking to hire a Livestock Extension Agent. The agent in this position will provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of an effective educational program and informational assistance to meet the needs of the county youth and adult populations in the following area of responsibility – Livestock, to include but not limited to swine, cattle, goats, sheep, as well as forages and pasture management. A successful candidate must demonstrate the ability and enthusiasm for serving audiences.
The person selected for this position will be responsible for educational programming and informational assistance related to all phases of livestock production and management. The agent will be responsible for providing leadership in planning, implementing, evaluating and marketing educational programs and activities with measurable impacts in livestock production/management and forage/pasture management. Additionally, the person selected for this position will be expected to work closely with the 4-H Agent to provide leadership in planning, implementing, evaluating and marketing a youth livestock program.
This position demands a responsible and self-motivated individual with outstanding relationship skills and a strong background in livestock production and 4-H livestock programming.
Frequent travel within the county and occasional travel outside the county is required.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
The candidate must be able to develop innovative strategies for presenting educational programs to livestock producers, youth and farm families, and related organizations and businesses.

Work Schedule: 8:00AM - 5:00PM with flexibility and occasionally working after hours or weekends as necessary.
Minimum Experience/Education:
One of the following educational requirements: – A Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) in an agricultural or related field. The minimum GPA requirement will be waived for NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor’s degree. – A Bachelor’s degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master’s degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field, or – Completion of a Master’s degree with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field.
Department Required Skills:
A Bachelor’s degree in a related agricultural field is required.
This position demands a responsible and self-motivated individual with outstanding relationship skills and a strong background in livestock production and forage/pasture management. Knowledge and experience in communications, presentation, public relations/marketing, leadership, time management, organization, technology, networking, and resource development is also required.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:
A Master’s degree is preferred. A background in livestock production and youth livestock programming. Possess strong oral and written communication skills. Possess appropriate computer skills.

Anticipated Hiring Range: Minimum Bachelor's $40,000; Minimum Master's $45,000; Minimum Doctorate $50,000 Commensurate with experience.
