North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperative Extension field faculty deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens.

North Carolina Cooperative Extension invites applications for the position of Agriculture Extension Agent - Field Crops based in the Robeson County Extension Center. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to partner with communities, delivering research-based education and technology that enriches the lives, land, and economy of North Carolinians.

Robeson County, North Carolina. Robeson County is located in Southeastern North Carolina and is the largest county in the state in area, ranking 4th among NC counties in total farm cash receipts, with corn, soybeans, and wheat as top producers of commodities. Robeson County has a population of approximately 118,000 residents with a varied population demographic located approximately 100 miles from Raleigh and 80 miles from Wilmington and the Atlantic Ocean.

Primary Function of Position
The Agent will be responsible for delivering essential research-based information and resources related to agriculture and natural resources, with a focus on Field Crops (including but not limited to soybeans, small grains, cotton and peanuts) to the local community.

Departmental Required Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience in communications, presentations, public relations/marketing, leadership, time management, organization, technology, networking, and resource development.
  • Familiarity with field crop production, research methodologies, and Extension practices.
  • Ability to relate effectively to people across all ages, income, educational levels, and backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing to teach effectively.
  • Ability to develop and implement formal and informal educational programs.
  • Ability to implement educational learning experiences for both youth and adults in furtherance of program objectives.
  • Willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Travel is required; a valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation are necessary.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in an agronomy or related agricultural field.
  • Strong knowledge of field crops, farm management, and agricultural best practices.
  • Prior experience in Extension or a related professional/educational setting is highly desirable.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications:

Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation required and must be maintained. In order to operate a state vehicle, a valid driver's license is required and must be maintained.
