Assistant in London Neurodegenerative Diseases Brain Bank
About the role
The role is based within the London Neurodegenerative Diseases Brain Bank and involves assisting in all aspects of office and laboratory work in relation to medico-legal brain assessment, preservation and tissue donation for research. This will include liaison with HM Coroner officers, funeral directors, mortuaries and King’s College Hospital Neuropathology lab to facilitate timely and sensitive acceptance and transfer of tissue.
Experience in post-mortem tissue preservation and processing is essential.
The post will also involve general laboratory duties to assist the neuropathology team, help process tissue requests for external users and maintain consumable stocks. There will also be an opportunity to be involved in research projects within the lab.
This is a full time (35 hours per week) but could be offered as a 60/40% job share, and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 6 months.
Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7. About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Expertise in preservation and processing of human tissue for research and diagnostic techniques
- Experience in documentation of tissue sample transfer
- Experience in liaising with HM Coroner, Mortuaries and Neuropathology teams
- Knowledge of the Human Tissue Act
- Laboratory management/health and safety knowledge
- Experience in neuroscience/neurodegeneration research
- Ability to interact with a wide range of persons
- Microsoft Office expertise

Grade and Salary: £39,076 - £43,909 per annum, including London Weighting Allowance
