The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University announces an open competition for the position:

ASSISTANT

Employment Contract Type: fixed term (employment contract for 3 years with the possibility of extension)

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a colleague for the Department of Chinese Studies to fill the position of assistant focusing on the study of Chinese/Sinophone literature and/or film, ideally with an overlap into modern Chinese anthropology or social issues in contemporary China.

MAIN JOB CONTENT

Pedagogical

  • Participating in lecturing or other forms of teaching in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programme. 3 courses per semester.
  • Participating in the organizational provision of pedagogical activity.
  • Supervising, consulting or reviewing Bachelor’s theses, in exceptional cases Master’s theses.

Research

Participation in research, development, and innovation activities, especially:

  • At least one academic article per year published in WoS, Scopus, or otherwise demonstrating comparable quality.
  • Participation in the investigation of grant projects.
  • Participation in the organizational provision of research activity.

Other

Participation in ensuring operational and administrative activities related to the academic position according to the instructions of the department head, e.g.:

  • routine administrative tasks in the administration of own courses
  • participation in the promotion of the field.

WE REQUEST

Professional education, qualifications and experience

  • Master’s Degree in the field of Chinese Studies (Chinese philology, Sinology) – a condition
  • at least started doctoral study - a condition
  • professional focus on the study of Chinese/Sinophone literature and/or film, ideally with an overlap into modern Chinese anthropology or social issues in contemporary China – a condition
  • ability to conduct academic research based on Chinese sources (to be documented by a published academic article) – a condition
  • existing academic publishing activity – a condition
  • experience teaching Chinese at a university – a condition

Language skills

  • Native speaker level proficiency in Czech or Slovak – required.
  • Standard academic proficiency in English (ability to communicate fluently in English in an international academic environment – oral communication as well as writing/reading) – required.

Requirements related to job content

  • presentation, organizational and didactic skills
  • ability to communicate effectively with students and engage them in learning
  • ability to carry out scientific research
  • ability to contribute to the research projects of the department
  • ability to participate in publication activities
