Rector of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków announces a competitive selection process for the post of an ASSISTANT in the group of research and teaching staff in the Department of Literary Theory (Faculty of Polish Studies) in the academic field of Literary Studies.

Specific Requirements
- publications, including in the fields of poetics and literary theory, 20th-century literary history, biographical studies, and literature for children and young people
- submission of a proposal for future research in line with the academic profile of the Department of Literary Theory – research covering: 20th-century and contemporary literary theory, including its developmental trends in relation to the history of theoretical doctrines, descriptive and historical poetics, and the history of literary research methodology, interpretative practices based on hermeneutics, narratology and the theory of text and literary communication, also drawing on the perspectives of self-referentiality and metatextuality, the interdisciplinary integration of literary-theoretical approaches with other fields
- high marks for a Master’s or doctoral thesis
- additional educational qualifications (e.g. postgraduate studies, specialist courses), reflecting the candidate’s (M/F) versatility and commitment to continuous development
- verified participation in international and/or national academic conferences, including both theoretical and historical-literary ones
- confirmed teaching experience in higher education – in delivering classes on various topics, including, amongst others, poetics and the history of 20th-century literature
- documented organisational experience (e.g. organising an academic event or an event promoting science)
- verified other non-academic experience (e.g. collaboration with cultural institutions, educational establishments, publishing houses)

Eligibility criteria
The competition may be entered by persons who meet the requirements specified in Art. 113, 116 section 2 point 4 of the Act of July 20, 2018, Law on Higher Education and Science, and in par. 166 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków.
Selection process
The candidates, who would like to take part in the competitive selection process, should send the following documents by email to rekrutacja.wpuj@uj.edu.pl:
- CV
- personal questionnaire filled in by the candidate
- copy of MA or PhD diploma, if applicable; if PhD – reviews required
- information on the candidate’s scientific, teaching and organisational achievements
- declaration of the candidate, confirming that the Jagiellonian University will be their primary place of work, should they be selected in the competitive selection process
- declaration under Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science
- declaration on acknowledging and accepting the rules and regulations concerning intellectual property management and commercialisation in force at the Jagiellonian University
- a numbered list of academic publications (including the publisher and number of pages), clearly indicating works in the fields of poetics/literary theory, 20th-century literary history, biographical studies, and literature for children and young people
- a proposal for future research fitting within the Department’s academic and research profile (up to 6,000 characters including spaces)
- see point 3, but if a copy of the doctoral degree certificate is submitted, reviews of the doctoral thesis must be attached
- a document confirming additional educational qualifications (e.g. a postgraduate diploma, a certificate of attendance at a specialist course)
- confirmation of active participation in conferences including those on theory and literary history (e.g. post-conference publications attesting to active participation, the conference programme indicating the Candidate’s (M/F) paper, or a written certificate from the organisers confirming the Candidate’s (M/F) active participation in the conference)
- at least two recent (from the current calendar year) references from independent academic staff regarding the Candidate’s (K/M) aptitude and qualifications for the role of academic teacher (taking into account the results of student surveys, if the Candidate (K/M) has been subject to such an assessment) and regarding their academic activity
- a certificate attesting to the Candidate’s (M/F) organisational skills, obtained, for example, from the organiser of a specific event
- personalised references relating to other non-academic experience (e.g. collaboration with cultural institutions, educational establishments, publishing houses)

Electronic documents submitted in a format other than that required will not be considered in the selection process.
In accordance with the policy of open, transparent and merit-based recruitment in force at the Jagiellonian University, Candidates will then undergo a formal and substantive assessment, followed by interviews (if necessary).

Announcement of the competitive selection process results shall take place by January 15, 2027 and the candidates will be informed by email.
