Job Summary
The Assistant Manager - Catering plays a vital leadership role in supporting the Catering Manager with the daily operations and execution of catered events. This position is responsible for planning and coordinating events, supervising staff, maintaining high standards of service and safety, and ensuring client satisfaction. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, a hands-on leadership style, and a commitment to excellence in hospitality.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Catering Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing all aspects of catered events, from logistics to final delivery
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise catering staff to ensure efficient service and high-quality performance
- Provide on-site leadership and oversight during events, ensuring operations run smoothly and according to plan
- Monitor and enforce food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards in accordance with federal, state, University, and Board of Regents (BOR) policies
- Support menu planning and collaborate with culinary staff to ensure client expectations and dietary needs are met
- Serve as a point of contact for clients, delivering excellent customer service and resolving issues promptly
- Assist with inventory control processes, including tracking supplies and reducing waste
- Continuously review and improve service procedures, event execution, and staff training programs
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Required Experience
Three (3) or more years of related work experience
Other Required Qualifications
ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification, or ability to obtain in the first thirty (30) days of employment
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education
Associate's Degree or equivalent vocational/technical training
Preferred Experience
Three (3) or more years of related work experience
Proposed Salary
$20.71 - $25.88 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
- Consistently exhibit engaging customer service
- Ability to support various constituencies served by the University
- Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position
- Experience in food service, hospitality, or event management preferred
KNOWLEDGE
Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
SKILLS
- Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
- Strong leadership and team management skills
